Hey folks this is Ro Russell from Toronto, Canada and Grassroots Canada AAU. I will be checking in with you every day with scoops, exclusives, highlights, rankings, info, as well as interesting factoids on the goings of Canadian basketball in Canada and our elite players in the US.

Monday January 26, 2009:

* The best unsigned SR guard in Canada is 6-3/190 combo Jonathan Tull from Pickering. He is a mini Devoe Joseph, who is currently killing for Tubby Smith @ Minnesota. Tull can light it up in a hurry pull up jumpers from 3 or explosive drives to the basket. He is a tough/hardnosed player who can create off the dribble and make plays. He is also a strong one on one defender( kinda guy you put on the other team’s best guard). He is qualified and ready to be signed. Some of Tull’s recent achievements include being named to the All Tournament at the prestigous Beach Ball Classic in SC. He is getting 25 ppg, 5 apg and 5 spg at Pickering High School. They are 2- time national defending champs in Canada, so the kid knows how to win.

He has a couple offers from schools in the NEC, but is severely underrecruited, as he is a mid plus d1 prospect. More of a A-10, Colonial, MAC, C- USA, WAC player.

Monday January 19, 2009:

* Spoke to one of the top players from my Grassroots Canada AAU team last night in Jason Calliste. Jason, who was the unsung hero of our Las Vegas Super 64 tournament championship last July, is doing very well academically as well as on the hardwood. He is averaging 26 ppg and 5 apg for Quality Educaton Academy in North Carolina. He told me he has been hearing from a host of schools in South Florida, FSU, Charlotte, Rhode Island, Marquette, Providence, Washington state, Oregon state, Detroit, and UT-C. He is taking his SAT on Jan 24th. I think that Jason is one the top shooter/ combo left out there. Dave Telep of Scout really likes him. He is a great kid and can really compete. He is a steal for the A-10, C-USA, and good get for the big east, etc if you need a really shooter who can flat our play and compete.

Thursday January 15, 2009:

* Today’s blog shall be known as Canadian Basketball 101. There are certain stereotypes out there today about overseas players, and Canadians get grouped in their with these notions. Many people still think Canadian basketball and it’s players are soft, more European than Americanized, etc, but I am here to dis spell this notion.

Take for example, the back to back MVP winner Steve Nash. Nash was a product of his environment, true, but he still had to go out there night in and night out and out perform some of the best basketball players ever. His makeup is similar to a lot of the younger Canadians today who try to emulate Nash. Canadians are tough and play a more up-tempo, creative type of game, rather than a systematic, finesse style that is synonymous with European basketball.

Canada’s closest neighbor is the US, so we have adopted that style of play thru AAU, camps, TV/cable, cross border HS competition, NCAA, NBA, etc.

Even though we are considered international and foreign we are more Americanized than any other country in the world.

Players like 6-9 WF Tristan Thompson( recruitingrumors no.1 in 2010), 6-2 PG Myck Kabongo(recruiting rumors to 10 in 2011), 6-1 PG Junior Cadougan(recruiting rumors top 20), among many others have proven that they can be top rated elite players in the US whether it be via AAU, camps, or HS.

After what our Grassroots Canada Elite team did last July at the Adidas Super 64 AAU Tournament by becoming the 1st non US team to win this prestigious event, it is evident that Canadian basketball is here to stay.

BTW, don’t forget a Canadian invented the game- Dr James Naismith from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Wednesday January 14, 2009:

* I am hearing Sherman Dillard, who ran the grassroots camps for Nike, is no longer in that position and was replaced by Rafael Chillious, the head coach @ South Kent Prep. Chillious has helped produce pros Josh Boone and Dorrel Wright. If South Kent ends up being backed by Nike even more, it could find an even bigger niche on the Prep School scene.

* On a Canadian basketball recruiting note, 6-10 JR PF Dwight Powell’s list is well known. But the rundown is, Stanford, Cal, G Tech, Florida, Memphis, Uconn, Penn State, Marquette, Miami, FSU, South Florida, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, and Harvard among others. (Ed Note: The kid is still wide open) He will be narrowing his list to 5 by spring and look for a commitment by summer. Keep in mind too, Powell’s mother is huge into academics, and Dwight is a very bright kid, no rhyme intended.

Monday January 12, 2009

* My elite 2011 6-2 PG Myck Kabongo has ended his recruitment and will be a Texas Longhorn. Some of the main reasons he committed so early were to focus on his game, keep up with his academics, and of course his basketball goals. After visiting over 10 schools unofficially over the last yr, he felt that Texas was the place for him. Having Grassroots Canada franchise player and RecruitingRumors.com’s #1 ranked player in the 2010 class, Tristan Thompson, already committed there didn’t hurt either. Myck weighed in on his commitment last night w/ us. ” I wanted to end early cause my heart and mind is with U of Texas. After speaking to my family, coaches at St Benedict’s, My AAU coach Ro Russell and My mentor Vidal Massiah I decided to announce my college decision on my birthday January 12th.”

Myck, who is recruiting Rumor’s no. 1 PG of the 2011 class, narrowed it down to Florida, Wake Forest, Villanova, Texas and Kansas. He pointed to the history of elite guards coming out of Texas, coach Rodney Terry and Rick Barnes, and open style of play as the main factors in his decision.

(Ed Note: Happy Birthday Myck, and Merry Christmas, Happy 4th of July, and Tree Day University of Texas, you guys are rolling!)

See you tomorrow for more on what’s what in Canadian elite Basketball.

Wednesday December 31, 2008:

* Take a look at our Day 2 report from the Bojangles Classic down in Charlotte.

* Last night we spoke with sources close to Vincent Council and all signs are leading to Providence. This is somewhat confusing to us because they just signed Johnnie Lacy from Notre Dame Prep. However, both are better than Sharaud Curry right now. We will let you know when it is official.

* We are currently working on pages for both Ro Russell and the Canadian Corner as well as Cory Black and his Juco Smack. We would like to welcome them to our family and cant wait to read what they are hearing and seeing. Both guys are great people that are extremely talented and hungry. They should be blogging very soon.

* According to the best damn sports blogger Jeff Goodman, Abdul Herrera is leaving Kansas State after appearing in just 4 games this year. Yes, this is the same Abdul Herrera that signed with UC and headed to USC Aiken. NAIA schools get your wallets ready.

Tuesday December 30, 2008:

* Take a look at our Day 1 report from the Bojangles Classic down in Charlotte.

* The rich got richer, as it is a done deal Terrence Roderick will be going to Chipola. Why Greg Heiar is not on somebody’s bench as a head assistant or even a head coach somewhere is beyond us. If you want to flat out win, and get it done, there’s no one better.

Friday December 19, 2008

* According to internet sources and confirmed by Jerrance Howard Tracy Abrams will be showcasing his ability at The University of Illinois. Abrams who is a 6′1 170 pound combo guard in the class of 2011 is taking pride in his home state and wants the illini to rekindle old flames. Great get for Bruce Webber and staff.

* Recruitingrumors.com will be front and center for the hoopgroup tip-off showcase at Seton Hall University. We will be doing a live blog from the venue so stay tuned.

Wednesday December 17, 2008

* Jeff Goodman’s mid season transfer report came out today, and there are still some guys out there for the taking. If interested in contact info for these guys let us know, and we’ll get it to you.

* One name Goodman left off, and this is still unreported is Terrence Roderick out of UAB. It appears with the constant in/out ways Mike Davis is utilizing T Rod, it has finally run its course. Terrence will be transferring, but there is no clear cut choice as to where.

* Steve Spinola out of Apex in New Jersey, a relative unknown to non basketball heads until last week, has finally seen offers that match his skill set. University of South Carolina saw him workout, and offered him that night. At 6′5, 190 the kid can flat out go. He is fully qualified, and the NCAA has cleared him, so we don’t expect this to be the last big time offer he receives. Word is Notre Dame and UNCG are highly intrigued.

* Last night we had a great conversation with 2011 superprep Myke Kabongo. According to Kabongo and backed up by Ro Russell Myke is hearing most from Kansas, Florida, Wake and Nova. When asked what coaching staff he feels most comfortable with at this point there was a 2 second pause, followed by “Florida, I really like coach Smart”. I then proceeded to ask him to tell me the schools he wished were recruiting him harder and he gave us Memphis, Duke and UCLA. According to Kabongo he really likes Collison’s game.

* We also spoke with 2010 guard Pe’Shon Howardright before the team took off for Maui. This kid has a lot of love for Maryland and that coaching staff. According to Howard he wants to be in a fast pace system that he feels comfortable shooting the ball in. Howard said his leader right now is Maryland with USC, Arkansas, and Xavier close behind. When I asked him to list his dream schools he said “UCLA, UCONN, Memphis and Tennessee”. If you dont have any info on the kid I am telling you right now to go through his father(Mr. Howard 626-676-5720).

* Last night I had the pleasure of speaking with class of 2010’s James Mcadooand he gave us some pretty good scoop. According to James Florida is the early leader cause Shaka Smart can flat out recruit! However he does feel some loyalty to Clemson because Coach Purnell has known the family since his Old Dominion days. Mcadoo also stated that he has talked to Austin Rivers about joining forces at Florida. I also asked him if there is a school out there that is not recruiting him that he would like to hear from and he said without question Arizona. However, dont be surprised if he goes to Florida instead of North Carolina or Clemson.

Tuesday December 16, 2008

* As you guys know we had some server issues due to the influx of hit to the site. We have switched servers and are back on top. Below I will give you a run down of the WORD in the last 10 days or so.

1.) Rick Pitino is the lead candidate for Arizona according to sources close to CM Newton. Newton is heading up the search committee and is also high on another former hire in Tubby Smith.

2.) If Rick Pitino leaves sources say Louisville will be going after Sean Miller of Xavier.

3.) Jay Wright is said to be pursuing the 76ers job.

4.) Ro Russell has kids available for all levels from Juco to D1. He has asked me to find some homes for his kids. If you are interested let me know. Jason Calliste is a solid available guard and if you watched him in Vegas this summer he was the MVP!

5.) Tonight we will be back to covering what you love best. See you soon!

6.) Brandon Powell, the former Florida Gator will decide between Cumberland and Walsh this week.

Thursday December 4, 2008:

* Bobby Cremins and his staff at Charleston have recieved a key target from the class of 2009. According to sources Charlotte Christian PF l Willis Hall has choosen Cremins’ program over Harvard, Presbyterian and Duke(football).

* Brandon Powell(Florida and Marshall) has told us he is looking to land at an NAIA school and is currently hearing from Cumberland, Pikeville, Walsh and Wiley. If you know anyone interested his cell number is 304-939-1200.

* ESPN was the first to report Jaimie Skeen leaving Wake Forest. Skeen would be a great D2/NAIA player. I am working on numbers as I type.

Wednesday December 3, 2008:

* Below are some recent LM commitments:

Umar Shannon- St. Francis

Ron johnson- St. Francis

Marcus Ware- Monmouth

Ed Waite- Monmouth

Rob Gagliardi- Canisius

Joe Efese- Central Connecticut

Nico Cochran- Davidson

Isiah Wilkerson- NJIT

Eb Davis- Lamar

Darryl Cato-Bishop- NorthCarolina State

Matt Labove- Dartmouth

* Also Tim Floyd and staff at USC have landed top 100 prospect Solomon Hill. Hill is a 6′6″ do it all wing that has a chance to be a pro with the right development

Monday December 1, 2008:

* As we reported two weeks ago Austin Carroll has made it official and will be doing a fifth year to work on his game. Like we said earlier as it stands right now Harvard his is leader. he has high interest in Stanford, and Northwestern but is not really hearing anything from them.

* According to internet sources Florida State has added Okari White(2010) to the roster. White is a wire of talent that should make an impact in the ACC when he is called on.

* Brooklyn’s own Joel Wrighthas verballed to Fordham University. This according to Scout.com, the 6?6 Wright out of Thomas Jefferson High School, Wright is a good fit for the Rams system.

* On a sidenote, our 2010 Player Rankings are up, and all of our Coaching Rankings are back up. Check ‘em out!

Thursday January 29, 2009:

* Spoke w/ Adrien Hubbard, a 2010 junior out of Norcross High School, last night. Hub is playing on the #1 team in the state in Georgia right now, and is looking to get his first ring. He has a real nice face up game, and the kid is highly unselfish. He and Marcus Thronton, a Clemson verballee, are best friends and are looking to play together in college. By all accounts we think Clemson has offered, so we would say it is a done deal. But, Adrien told us he is holding out hope for either Wake or Florida to enter the fray during the summer. He is intent on signing before his senior season though. 404 427 1627

Wednesday January 28, 2009:

* West Carolina is hot and heavy over two Heat Academy recruits. Marvin Fitzgerald and Andrew Lawrencewill both be on WCU’s campus this weekend. These two would be steals, and be monsters in the SoCon next year.

* On other visit news, Jordan Downing out of Hopewell High School will be taking an unofficial visit to Wright State.

Tuesday January 27, 2009:

* Spoke w/ east coast sleeper Robbie Johnson tonight. He has been at Edison Prep in New Jersey w/ Kevin Strong for a healthy portion of this school year. Originally committed to Air Force, Robbie went out there for a little bit, realized Air Force was not the place for him, and subsequently made the decision to come home. A level headed kid, Robbie still has 4 years left, and is fully qualified. At 6?8 he plays the three, and is consistently knocking down his 3 point shot this year. Alabama A&M is his only offer right now, but Stonybrook is doing the best job of recruiting him. The reason his recruitment is so low is bc NOBODY knows the kids is available!!! Think a bigger more athletic Steve Spinella here coaches. Get on the boy before a high major comes in for the kill. 678 314 1600.

Monday January 26, 2009

* Did a follow up last night with Kevin Perryfrom Westbury Christian. According to KP he took an unofficial visit this past week to Liberty while going to the presidential inauguration. KP said he really liked the visit but the lack of diversity was a worry, however he said playing for a black head coach could make up for that. He is scheduled to take an official visit to UTEP for football on the 30th and 31st of this month. Perry will also be going to Miami of Ohio the following wed. and thursday where the wildcard lays. If he decided to play both sports Miami of Ohio seems to be the choice because of a family relationship with Head footaball coach Mike Haywood. Our gut says he will end up in Ohio. We have been wrong before so stay tuned.

Friday January 23, 2009

* Received via text message: Steve Spinella will announce his decision on Monday as to what college he will be attending in the fall. By all accounts, it looks like Steve’s recruitment will land him in Columbia, SC. Spinella plans on calling or texting the coaches involved in his recruitment to thank them for all they have done and to let them know that he will be attending South Carolina. He points to his visit as the reason, and he has openly said he wants to go down south. Spinella got to see South Carolina beat Florida, which we are sure was enough to make the SEC school look like heaven. According to many involved in the recruitment, Spinella’s final 2 were UNCG and South Carolina.

* THIS IS A HM ALERT FOR ALL D2?S AND NAIA SCHOOLS THAT WANT TO WIN. We are hearing some big things in and around the state of Arkansas. According to reliable sources Marcus Pillow and his camp would like to play D2 or NAIA next year. Pillow is currently the leading scorer for Central Arkansas and would be a solid second or third option on a championship caliber team. Coaches, please be aware that this might be a touchy one, but I bet if you do your work you can get in there. Best of luck with this nugget.

Thursday January 22, 2009

* On the college scene we have heard reports out of Storrs, CT claiming Ater Majok has made it thru the clearinghouse and is officially eligible at the University of Connecticut. He will practice for the first time today, but not play in games until next year.

Wednesday January 21, 2009:

* According to internet sources Travis McKiehas just recieved a scholarship offer from Ga. Tech. McKie who we have spoken with on several occasions is a highly touted prospect especially in the ACC. He curretly holds offers from UVA, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Wake Forest, Clemson and VCU. Word on the street is T Mac is waiting to see if North Carolina offers.

* A little late, but better late then never. Here is the rundown from the Josh Howard/Scholastic MLK Extravaganza:

* Tyler Lewis, especially for a freshman, is the real deal. He stayed poised, and put not only himself in a position to shine, but his teammates as well in his 28 point performance over Page.

* Yes, Ryan Kellyhad 47, but dually note it was a quiet 47. He really didn’t go off until his team was down a considerable amount in the fourth. He has the tools, and the skillset, but he could have had 60 if he would have played with the urgency he did with 1:30 left in the fourth. We came into this day thinking Mason Plumlee was the better Duke signing, but left feeling as though Kelly could fit in well at Duke. We’ll see if they play him at the “3? like they told him they would though.

* Northern Guilford has an impressive cast of underclassmen. Johnathan Frye is a few ball handling drills away from being a mid major steal, and big man Jacob Lawson more then held his own against Ravenscroft’s bigs. The thing that impressed us most was Lawson, from the outset, was not intimidated. There were even times throughout the game he was the best player on the floor. We feel he is generously listed at 6?7, but he has a knack for the ball, and is a quality athlete. In order for him to really be a high major his skill set will need to develop, but as he told us he has been doing stuff like this all year. 336 613 7780

* The sleeper of the Northern Guilford sophomore class, and most likely that area, has to be Michael Neal. A solidly built sophomore Neal really has great body control, and a crisp handle. He reminds us of Jamar Butler in high school, just not that put together, YET! All of Northern’s guards shoot the ball well, and Neal is no exception. He turned the ball over some, which is expected when it is a guard’s hands a majority of the time, but he didn’t let it fluster him, and moved right on to the next play.

* The Glenn vs. Greensboro Day game made us mad at John Wall, and the lack of coaching going on in this game made us run up our internet bill on our phones. This game was reminiscent of in high school when in order to talk to the pretty girl, you have to talk to her fat friend. This game was the fat friend, and Oak Hill was the pretty girl, who put on that Bed Bath & Beyond body spray for that added effect. Which in shorter terms, what we are trying to say is Oak Hill did not disappoint.

* “Mo Mo” Jones is the truth. He shoots a lot, but they are high percentage shots, and he has the respect of his teammates to do that. Big Keith Gallonplayed well in spurts, but he is still maturing. If Oklahoma can turn that baby pudge into muscle, he is Big Baby Davis reincarnated. Mason Plumleesettled for jumpers far too much in the second quarter, which ultimately led to his team being down by 9. While they were uncontested 3’s, he was apprehensive to shoot it bc he probably has never been so wide open in a big game like he was last night. While Lakeem Jackson is definitely a high major kid, he was exposed last night a little. He caught a vicious dunk in the opening minutes of the game, but as the game went on and he started going up for shots amongst the trees, he was missing shots he otherwise would normally make. He still rebounded well, and was a high energy guy, which is why he is a high major, but his inbetween game will have to develop in order for him to stand out on the college level like he does now. The best part about games like these is there is rarely any sportsmanship, even from the coaches. Oak Hill was hanging it on Christ School, but both coaches left their main guys in until there was like 45 seconds left. I love this type of stuff, this “let’s stick it to ‘em til we can’t stick it to ‘em anymore” type attitude. It creates a rivalry, and hell these teams probably won’t meet again unless it is right back here in the Coliseum.

* Lucky for you Erie Highlight Reel was there last night to catch the action. Above are some highlights for you to enjoy.

6:44pm First game of the night features Westbury Christian and Cathedral Prep. I am looking forward to seeing how Kevin Perry plays.

7:00pm The game is tipping off and make no mistake about it Erie loves thier sports teams. Great crowd and atmosphere for a High School tournament. band playing and the smell of popcorn!

7:03pm Score is still 0 to 0, both teams in man to man trying to feel each other out. First offensive possesion for Westbury was a turnover by Perry on a touble team.

7:05pm Perry gets on the board with a post move from about 12 feet. Needs to work on getting better position here early on. Prep leads 5 to 2.

7:06pm Perry again with a nice move after a transition catch on the wing. Perry takes it baseline and spins back middle for a layup. Prep 8 Westbury 6.

7:08pm Anthony Collins is starting to show himself. Just a solid floor leader with great balance. Collins takes it coast to coast and finishes left and Westbury leads 10 to 8.

7:10pm Kevin Perry running the floor finishes with a dunk.

7:13pm first quarter comes to an end with Westbury leading Prep 15 to 12 on a last second Anthony Collins break down three pointer from the top of the key. Collins is a HM potential player. Perry finished with 6 on 5 shots and Collins finished the quarter with 5 on a perfect 2 for 2 from the field. Bob Spoden has 8 for Prep.

7:16pm The first 4 min. of the second quarter has been the Anthony Collins show. He has nailed two shots and assisted 2 others to pace Westbury to a 23 - 14 lead with 6:21 left in the half.

7:24 it has been an uneventful second quarter. Westbury leads 34 to 21. The half comes to an end with a Anthony Collins jump shot from the free throw line. I LOVE THIS KID and he has a 3.2 gpa. Halftime score Westbury 38 to 23.

The Halftime Stat Sheet Standouts are Anthony Collins leading all scorers with 11 points on 4 for 4 from the field he also leads his team in rebounding with 3. Kevin Perry has 9 points on 4 for 8 shooting and also has 3 boards. Nick Shephard has 2 points on 1 of 3 from the field and the 6?9? center has 3 boards. Westbury is shooting 62 percent and Collins is running the show. For Prep Andrew Sweny and Bob Spoden are leading the way with 10 and 8 points respectively. Spoden would be a decent MM d3 get.

7:41 Second Half

First and second possesion of the half Westbury goes to Perry in the post and he draws a foul both times while attacking the basket. Westbury leads 40 to 25.

Blowout City. Kevin Perry’s post presense in the second half has been fun to watch. When he sticks to his strengths he is a legit MM player. Anthony Collins is really good. Have I said that?

The third quarter ends with Prep going on a little run to cut it to 8, 46 to 38.

Game ends with Westbury winning 58 to 42. All and all a decent performance was put in by Westbury. Kevin Perry ended the game with 18 on 5 for 11 shooting. He was 8 for 11 from the line and ended with 4 boards. Anthony Collins ended the game with 13 points on 5 of 6 from the field and had 9 rebounds and 2 assists.

Championship game between Chester and Archbishop Carroll coming up…..

Off to a slow start here in the championship game 5 min. in the score is tied 5 to 5.

Jameer Nelson’s lil brother Maurice is geeting it in early however with all 8 of Chester’s points going two for two from behind the arc. Nelson looks comfortable as a catch and shoot guy.

With the first quarter in the books Chester has a 16 to 9 lead over Archbishop Carroll. Leading the way for Chester is Maurice Nelson with 10 points on 4 of 8 shooting he also leads the team with 3 boards.

Chester opens the second quarter on a 8 to 0 run lead by thier defense

Chester is the more hungry team right now and with 1:30 lead 34 - 13.

Heading into halftime Chester is up 39 to 17. Chester is led by sophomore Maurice Nelson who has 17 points.

The third quarter has came and gone and the highlight of the quarter happend when Rahlir Jefferson found himself on a breakaway with no one around. Jefferson cocked it back and slamed the ball on the bottom of the rim.

Third quarter is over and Chester leads 52 to 28. Nelson has 17 points and Jefferson has 12 for Chester. Laquan Robinson has done a decent job for Chester running the team. He also has 14 points.

For Archbishop Carroll I am still impressed with Canadian sophomore Kenny Osse. This kid is a little heavy sey but has a great stroke. Potential LM+ kid.

Scrubs are coming in and I am out of here……..

Overall tonight was not a bad night. The talent here was average at best. The recruitingrumors.com all tournament team goes to:

Maurice Nelson- Chester

Kenny Osse- Archbishop Carroll

Rahlir Jefferson- Chester

Kevin Perry- Westbury

Anthony Collins-Westbury

Player of the week: Kevin Perry- Westbury

Rising Star: Anthony Collins (So) - Westbury

Friday Night Lights:

* Welcome to tonights live blog from Erie PA. We get to get it in right off the bat with Westbury Christian and Archbishop Carroll.

With the first quarter in the books Westbury is getting handed an ass whippin’…. The guy i like the best so far is Carroll sophomore Kemy Osse.

It is now halftime and the score is Carroll 32 Westbury 23. The show right now belongs to Kemy Osse a sophomore guard. He is very big for a guard and seems to be more of a system guard(halfcourt). Has trouble in transition because he might be 210lb as a spohomore. Not fat just has to work on his transition game. He has 12 points and is a perfect 5 for 5 from the field and 2 for 2 from behind the arc.

We are sitting beside Jason Eaker of Liberty and Ryan Price of Gannon. Eaker is a great guy and is here looking at a Westbury Post named Kevin Perry. Perry is currently 2 for 5 from the field and is 3 for 4 from the line. Perry has shown some signs of promise but all and all a LM player.

The third quarter has come to an end with a rally from Westbury Christian as the game is now tied at 38. Westbury’s intensity picked up as a result so did thier D. Kevin Perry is starting to pick it up a little. The 4th quarter coming……

50 to 48 with 1:17 left and Carroll is up with the ball

Looks like it is wrapping up as Carroll will be taking the game. Overall a decent performance by the young Carroll team. I was a little disapointed by the play of Nick Shepherd and Anthony Collins. Collins overall has some HM point guard potential but just couldnt get off for whatever reason tonight. Kevin Perry kinda grew on me though. What started out as a peremeter based effort changed to a little inside - outside game. He has some physical tools but I just question if he knows how good he could be on the block. Perry ended the game 5 for 14 with 15 points and 6 boards in 32 min. Final score Carroll 57 and Westbury 50.

We had a chance to sit down with an elite 2011 guard Anthony Collins after the game. Collins told us that Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia have all invited him to thier elite camp and that Oklahoma and West Virginia seem to be working the hardest. Even though he had a bad night Collins has great balance and has a nice upside. He needs to work on his seperation moves but will be MM+. When asked if he had to choose a MM school in Texas it would be Stephen F. Austin. Getting this kid goes threw his older brother who played at WVU. Has a 3.2 gpa

Had a chance to also sit down with Westbury’s Kevin Perry. Perry told us that he is leaning toward just playing basketball and has basically narrowed it down to Liberty, Stephen F. Austin, Lamar and UTEP. He also was quick to note that Nebraska has been calling lately. Perry seems like a great kid! I asked him “if it ended today where would you go?” “Liberty” Perry says, “Liberty”.

SECOND GAME: Cathedral Prep vs. Chester coming up…….

The first quarter is in the books and we have an upset in the making. Cathedral Prep is being much more disciplined right now and it is paying off. Chester’s Rahlir Jefferson is off to a slow start with 3 points in 8 min.

The second quarter was just as boring as the first. The half ended with Prep leading Chester 34 to 31. The leading scorer at the half was Rahlir Jefferson of Chester with 14 points. Jefferson is a Temple Signee.

The third quarter has started and it is obvious that Chester wants to increase the pressure. Dunk #1……….Dunk#2………..and a little bit of Maurice Nelson……..and a little bit more. Maurice Nelson is a sophomore guard to keep your eye on from Chester. Has an effortless stroke and his teams thinks its going in everytime he shoots.

We are heading into the 4th quarter with Chester up 52 to 48. Jefferson has 18 and Nelson has 11 for Chester while Prep is led by sr. Bob Spoden. Spoden looks like a solid MM D3 guy.

Not real impressed with Chester tonight. Jefferson is OK at best and will not play much at Temple if they are to contend for an A-10 championship. Even though he ended with 26 and 11 Prep didnt field a player over 6?4?. Final score Chester 69 Prep 62.

Friday January 16, 2009:

* Kansas City, KS point guard stud Neil Watson has given his word to Gene Cross and the University of Toledo. Watson won’t sign w/ the Rockets until the Spring.

* A little birdie told me that Nadir Tharpeof Brewster Academy is really close to a decision. According to my sources Tharpe has a great relationship with Emanuel The Library “BOOK” Richardson. If this gets done look for Tharpe to graduate early and be considered a 2010 steal.

* We are also hearing that some media sources jumped the gun while reporting Terell Vinsonwill be asking for a release. According to our sources Vinson and Max Good are on great terms and the fact that Max has signed a multi year deal will ultimately be the deciding factor on Vinson staying put. We believe Vinson will play at Loyola Marymount next year.

Thirsty Thursday January 15, 2009:

* We will be doing a live blog from the Mcdonalds Classic in Erie PA over the weekend. The field includes Westbury Christian, Chester, Archbishop Carroll and host Cathedral Prep. Let us know if you need any on site interviews and updates of specific players.

Wednesday January 14, 2009:

* Talk about job security, Paul Hewitt is the college version of Mike Brown. And, he just got his Lebron James in 6?9/220 Derrick Favors. Wow! This instantly catapults that already good class to a juggernaut. Congrats to the Yellow Jackets. There’l be a lot of stinging going on down in GA this time next year.

* Edwin Rios, as reported by ESPN, has gotten the boot from Miami, but what they didn’t report is that it is permanent. NAIA’s get your recruiting pants on, it is time to roll! We’ll have a contact # on Rios sometime today.

* Big ups to Ben Wilkins at William and Mary.I did a follow up interview on North Carolina shooting guard Jonathon Frye(Northern Guilford) and it seems as though the kid is holding ground. Frye lists William and Mary, App State, UNCG and Harvard as his to 4 right now and says if it ended today he would be at William and Mary. If UNCW or Gonzaga is reading the kid would love to hear from you.

* We also spoke late last night via Facebook to Waverly Austin of Princeton Day Academy. Austin is one of the better available posts left. He is awaiting a slight increase in his test score but is currently getting looks from Florida State, South Florida, and TCU. Austin named FSU the leader, but says he really wants to be an Oregon Duck. It will be interesting to see if the kid gets his wish both academically and athletically. Mids, this guy is a steal for you!

Tuesday January 13, 2009:

* One of the top players in the nation and the best player in the state of GA will announce tommorow where he is going. Derrick Favors will announce at 6:30 est time tommorow live on ESPN, right before the 7pm Georgia Tech vs. Duke game. Favors is going to pick between Georgia , Georgia Tech and N.C. State. Favors annoucing before the Tech game sounds like a winner for Tech!

* Bball Stars of America, an AAU club out of Pittsburgh, is not a one man wrecking crew whatsoever. While we caught up with T Drone last night, we were able to find out he has some teammates, who while not high majors, are definately on a lot of schools radars. Teammate Nate Perry will most likely be committing to Coastal Carolina in the near future. And, Evan Pierce, a knockdown shooter, is garnering lots of interest from Davidson, Oregon State, and Vandi. Davidson needs to make sure their recruiting efforts are at an all time high, because once Steph Curry leaves, that national recognition will cool off considerably.

* Under the radar senior, Dalonte Heard out of Toledo Rogers High School, is getting quite a bit of interest from MEAC schools. At 6?8, 260 Heard is a big presence, but has great athleticism for somebody his size. Howard is the leader right now, but it will be interesting to see where the big fella ends up.

* 6?6 PG prospect Sebastian Koch out of Christ School has popped up on UCONN’s radar. The German import has a nice skill set, but really is being under utilized at Christ School. His shooting mechanics are solid, and his jumping ability sneaks up on you. He is a quality ball handler, but due to the constant tug of war he is battling w/ the bench, his confidence is down. UCONN sees something in the kid though, and he is intrigued by the opportunity to shine in the Big East. He will go back to Germany to play for the Under 18 national team for a little while this summer, but he says he wants to play AAU for the Charlotte Royals during the summer. He is our early favorite for the ‘09 Summer Sleeper Pick.

Monday January 12, 2009:

* We’re at it again! Check out Ro’s Canadian Corner for the biggest news of 2009. And the kid we’re talking about will not even be 18 until 2011!!!! Wow. We appreciate those who have been with us from the beginning, and as we take off here, we are looking forward to provide you with the best news and notes possible in the basketball WORLD.

* Look for 2010 stud Tom Droney to cut his list a little more with the recent Pitt commitment of Isaiah Epps. Pitt did well to offer him roughly 9 months ago, but young Tom still wasn’t ready to commit, and rightfully so. The hometown team and Droney should mutually part ways either today or tomorrow. Look for Notre Dame to really move in here, and keep the lovefest. Droney is a perfect fit for Mike Brey and company.

* Caught up w/ Taran Buie last night too. T Boo and his high school team are punishing people right now, and he is playing solid basketball. Penn State is really in the mix for this kid, while Paul Hewitt was at practice yesterday. It still is a 4 horse race with ND and Maryland still in the mix. Maryland will not get cut just because Isaiah Epps and Boo wanted to play together. If Notre Dame can pull this one off, they will have to be thrusted into the top 5 recruiting staff in the country!

* Jarred Shaw has made it official and will be in Stillwater next fall. Shaw is a 6?8/205 big man from Dallas W. Carter High School, and joins an already strong incoming Cowboy class.

Friday January 9, 2009:

* We are hearing a lot of noise off the I-40, specifically between the greensboro/chapel hill exits. It appears there is an offer on the way to 2011 stud P.J. Hairston. Hairston’s mom, who is a well known Carolina die hard, and even Hairston have not made it a secret that Carolina is their odds on favorite. So much so, that an apparent attempt by Wake to come visit Hairston at school was nixed. This deal should be sealed in about 2 weeks, and we look for Carolina to have it’s first 2011 commitment.

* The Citadel is off to a solid conference start this year, and it appears that strong showing has the Bulldogs riding the wave by way of 20 or so recruits coming in this weekend. Credit Ronnie Hamilton for a bulk of these guys, as 2011 studs like Anthony Williams, and Glen Patterson will be on campus. 2010 will be represented as well w/ solid PG Brendan Wyatt gracing The Citadel campus. There are plenty of others too, but those are a few worth noting.

* There is a legit PG out at Apex to compliment their stud Steve Spinola. Markens Charles is a 6? point guard, who is tough as nails, and gets in done time and time again. He is currently avg 17ppg and 12.5apg to go along w/ 4 steals. The kid is a kleptomaniac!!! He’s an impact guy on the low major level year 1, and is still open, but does have suitors on him. 973 392 9657.

Thursday January 8, 2009:

* In a quality battle of basketball talent last night, Christian Life and God’s Academy squared off. With both schools having the Lord High on their side, Christian Life out dueled The Academy for the win. The stat of the night came from God’s Academy senior Josten Thomas. Thomas had 40 points and 12 boards on Latavious Williams. While Williams is the more sought after of the two, we have been advocating for JT for some time now. He still needs his test score, but the relationship you build with him now can go a long way. He is a high major athlete, and according to people at the game, the Knicks and Pistons both had scouts at that game. 478 318 4407.

* Oregon State landed a nice one in 6?3 guard Jared Cunningham. No relation to Richie or Randall, but this guy is definitely a player. He committed after their big win against USC, which goes to show if your crystal ball is working coaches, bring in a kid a little over you, and let him soak up the energy and atmosphere. Congrats to the Beavers!

Wednesday January 7, 2009:

* According to sources close to recent Memphis transfer Jeff Robinson, it seems as though he will be headed to Seton Hall. (shaking my head)

* As reported about a week ago by us, Vincent Council has decided to make it official to Providence. The Friars are a quality pick up for Council, but only time will tell if Council is a quality pick up for the Friars.

* 6?11 Storm Stanley out of Toledo St. Francis is currently interested in the IVY League. The 2010 big man is not dead set on going to the IVY, although he does have the credentials, and would be a big time pick up for any IVY League school. Storm is a high major kid in terms of size, and will be a definite mid major in terms of skill set after this summer. 419 377 7084.

Tuesday January 6, 2009:

Today is Tuesday Threat Day…

* There is a low major stud in the woodwork, or should we say, the dry heat of Texas. Blinn JC big man Peter Milasinovic is a 6?9/245 crafty lefty. He will have three years left @ a D1 after this year, and started out at Eastern Washington before transferring to Blinn. He hails from Canada, and has been getting the most interest from High Point, yet no offers have surfaced. If he slips to D2 for whatever reason, yes that D2 will be in the hunt for a national title. Call him and grab him before we put him somewhere else! 979 525 8350.

* Antonio Biglow and Chase Franklin are two point guards who people need to keep an eye out for. They are getting all kinds of looks, but no offers. Part of that is they still need their test scores, but if I’m a mid major, and especially a low major, I am keeping my relationship strong w/ these guys, so that when they get their scores, we move right in and lock them up. Or, I help place them @ a juc, so I can go back and get them. Both these guys can go, and are instant contributors @ a mid major, or standouts @ a low major. Tony, 323 747 6581, is a high IQ PG, who is getting looked @ by Providence, C Florida, Morehead, and Colorado State. Chase, 972 693 3153, has all the tools to be a big time combo guard, is getting serious interest from TCU, Oral Roberts, and Toledo.

* According to sources at Oklahoma State it appears as though Ibrahima Thomas is on his way to Cinncinnati to become a Bearcat. It should be official later this week or early next week.

* Had a quality conversation with Hargrave cadet and PG basketball player Danny Niemanto end our night. Nieman, hailing from Concord, North Carolina, is a strong low-mid major prospect. He currently has offers from New Hampshire and Radford. We have heard thru the grapevine that Fordham wants him, but nothing has been verballed or put on paper. There is a darkhorse in the mix though, and that is UNCG.

Monday January 5, 2009:

* If we here @ RecruitingRumors gambled, which we don’t, we would put our bottom dollar on Emeka Okafor, the college version, transferring to Western Illinois. And, we won’t hesitate to say we told you so. Northern Iowa and North Dakota State University both have outside chances.

* Had a nice conversation w/ Mid-High major Taariq Muhammad last night. ‘Riq has had an impressive high school career thus far, and has played on every stage possible for a high schooler. While it is commonly known he has offers from UAB, Auburn, and Providence, the insider info we came away with could prove to be ENORMOUS. We’re talking 6?9, 260 Renardo Sidney enormous. Taariq and Renardo are cousins, and played on the same AAU Team this summer. Apparently only USC and Virginia know the two want to play together in college. If you don’t have two scholarships available for an All-World big man, and a pure, solid PG, hit the booster speed dial, and get ‘em!

* There is always talk of Patterson Prep, and this year is no different. Within the juggernaut squad, there lies Hunter McClintock. We have heard everything from lower high major-d2, so we went straight to the source. Hunter said Hawaii and TCU are on him the heaviest, but still no real offers from either. He really likes the idea of being in and playing at Hawaii, but only time will tell.

Saturday January 3, 2009:

* Emeka Okafor has left University of Toledo. The 6?7 freshman, who right now is primarily known for his defense, will be a great fit at a lower D1, or even a D2 All- American. He’s a real soft spoken kid, and got in no trouble at UT, it was just a mutual decision between he and the coaches. A biology major, his Net Gains Sports AAU coach, Marquise Watts, will probably be the most influential person in this next decision.

* Had a nice conversation w/ Mid-High major Taariq Muhammad last night. ‘Riq has had an impressive high school career thus far, and has played on every stage possible for a high schooler.
* Emeka Okafor has left University of Toledo. The 6′7 freshman, who right now is primarily known for his defense, will be a great fit at a lower D1, or even a D2 All- American.
Thursday January 1, 2009:

* Welcome to 2009, take a look at the Bojangles Classic day 3 wrap up.

* We also spoke with 2010 guard Pe’Shon Howard right before the team took off for Maui.

* Last night I had the pleasure of speaking with class of 2010’s James Mcadoo and he gave us some pretty good scoop.

Tuesday November 25, 2008:

* Tulsa has signed Kodi Maduka of Arlington TX. Maduka is a 6′11″ project with his best years ahead of him. He averaged 7pts and 6 boards a game last year in a tough league. With the right development Maduka will be a great get for Tulsa.

* Last night we spoke with Austin Carroll and he told us that he will be reclassing at the end of the year but doesnt know what prep school he will be attending. Carroll a Worcester Academy guard for now has offers from Xavier, Rhode Island and West Virginia. However, Carroll says he is looking for a better academic situation and would choose Harvard over all of those courters. He also said if Notre Dame or Michigan offers his recruitment would be over. We will keep you posted!

* We also spoke with 2010 west coast power forward Steven Adams last night. Adams told us that he has high interest from Washington U, Washington State, Cal and Arizona State. Right now he says the biggest factor in his decision is distance. He wants his mom to be able to see him play a lot. Also coaches he will be playing with California Supreme AAU team next year. If Cal offers its a wrap with this one.

Monday November 24, 2008:

* We reported a little while back that Demetrius Conger out of Covenant Christian Academy was planning on committing to St. Bonaventure. We have received word that it is official, and Conger will be in Olean come Fall of ‘09. Credit to Jeff Massey for getting this one done, Coach Massey is quickly moving up the ranks as one of the best assistants in the country.

* Patterson Prep PG, say that three times fast, Victor Council has narrowed his college choices down to Providence and Rutgers. A decision could come at anytime, and as soon as we get word we will let you know.

* Chipola stud, John Kreft, has his list of schools down to two, UAB and FSU. With the looming coaching change at UAB imminent, look for Kreft to go to FSU, where he had originally planned on going back in 2006. FSU is doing a helluva job on the recruiting scene too. What remains to be seen is will they develop the guys once they bring them in.

Friday November 21, 2008:

* The late Thursday/early Friday rumor is a doozy. Sources close to the Top 10 big man Demarcus Cousins have told us that Demarcus is set to re-open his recruitment. He is not and will not even be thinking about signing his LOI to UAB. Why you may ask? Mike Davis is gone after this year. On his own terms this time. And, we also found out that while Cousins recruitment maybe “open” he is simply waiting to see where Davis lands, and he is sure to follow.

Thursday November 20, 2008:

* Notre Dame Prep point guard Johnny Lacy has decided to end his recruitment and will be headed to Providence College Lacy is a 5′10″ 160 pound scoring wizard. He played high school at Milwaukee Bay View High School where he averaged 22 points a game as a senior. We spoke with Coach Hurd at Notre Dame Prep and he raves on the kids abilities.

* Last night we spoke with 2010 point guard Xavier Jones out of Illinois. Jones who plays with SYF is hearing from a lot of different schools right now but shed some light on who he is feeling. Jones told us that Dayton has already offered and that Marquette and Purdue are really pursuing him. According to Jones he wants to go down south and play immediately. He also said that any school interested must get James Bye’s permission. James is the head of the SYF program and he can be reached at 219-902-1177.

* Iowa State as recieved word that Chris Colvin of Whitney HS in Chicago will will call Aimes home for the next 4 years. Colvin is in everybody’s top 100 and is a decent get for Iowa State.

* Dereck Kellogg and staff have added a nice athletic wing in Sampson Carter who signed a national letter of intent yesterday. Carter is 6′8″ 200 pounds and is enrolled at Winchendon. This was a great get for Umass and company.

* UCLA has added Mike Moser. Moser is a 6′7″ 210 pound all around wing that originally signed with Arizona. He re-opened his recruitment and picked UCLA over Oregon State, Washington and USC.

Wednesday November 19, 2008

* Contrary to what we reported earlier, it appears Durand Scott will not be going to UCONN. He wants to get away from home, and do his own thing. So, for the Miami Hurricanes, it appears Christmas came a little early this year. Kudos to them and Coach Fernandez for getting this thing done. To go head to head w/ a school like UCONN and come out on top, speaks volumes for where this program is headed. Coach Haith is one of our guys, and he deserves this.

* Virginia Tech has recieved word that Lamont Jones will be a hokie. According to internet sources the Oak Hill guard will be taking his toughness to Blacksburg. He gave a verbal and didnt sign because he wants to be back in New York with his family and mom when he signs.

* Recent Signings include: Keith Gallon - Oklahoma over Georgetown, Arizona, Arkansas, etc…

Keith Clanton - UCF over South Florida and South Carolina

Lamont Jones - VA Tech over Cincinnati and Seton Hall

Tuesday November 18, 2008

* The list is here, the official RRCS player rankings are here! Check them out, the formula was based on a 100 point scale, 1 being the best 100 the least. Every kid was given a ranking in categories ranging from Basketball IQ to the Mr. Clutch Factor. We also factored in four other scouting services rankings to help us determine where the kids should be ranked. Interestingly enough, having evaluated most all of these kids at some point or another, we feel where we have certain kids ranked is exactly where they should be based on their overall skillset and intangibles. Enjoy! And tell a friend to tell a friend.

* Also, check out our United Faith Christian Academy story. We had a chance to go down there for practice last night, and left impressed with Coach Wiseman’s attention to detail and two young gunners! He also has two availables that MM-LM kids. Contact info, and strengths/weaknesses are available upon request. Remember all stories on players and/or individuals can also be found under player profiles.

* Last night we had a great conversation with Daniel Alexander from Dripping Springs HS in Texas and he broke it down very nicely for us. He is holding offers from Texas A&M. Utah, Marqette and Baylor. Alexander considers Texas and Arizona his dream schools and they are nibbling. He also told us that he and Tobi Oyedeji have been talking a lot about playing together. Texas A&M is trying to package the two. This will be a decision that will not be made in the near future.

* We also spoke with one of Boo Williams’ finest in Travis McKie. McKie told us that he is holding offers from UVA, Va. Tech, Wake Forest, Clemson, Maryland, and Boston College. He is planning on visiting Clemson over Thanksgiving and says he will narrow it down to 5 shortly after that. If you ask me I think he is waiting on an offer from Florida. They have sent three coaches to Richmond already.

Monday November 17, 2008:

* We are hearing that Durand Scott will be headed to UCONN. This would be a big get for these guys. He should be announcing Tuesday night and maybe Wednesday morning.

* Kansas State has recieved a verbal commitment from 2010 Miami FL product Tony Mitchell. Mitchell, is a 6′8″ 215 pound 3 man. He is very capable of becoming a stud with the right development. He choose Kansas State over Marquette, Oklahoma State, and Florida State. This is a great get for Coach Martin who will need to get south Floridas’ finest in order to win. Love the get!

* Georgia Southern’s staff is flat out gettin it right now. Rumor has it that they will be getting Myk Brown and now they have recieved a commitment from a VERY underrated guard from Arlington Country Day School. According to sources Emarri Bailey will be headed to Georgia Southern. The guy has four state championships already and averaged 13 points a game last year. He is a winner. This is an 8 out of 10.

Friday November 14, 2008:

* The LOI day has come and gone and the truth is we don’t want to inundate you with stuff you already know. With that said there were no major surprises this week, but there were some minor ones. 1.) Brad Reese going to to Texas Tech; 2.) Greg Robbins is going to Richmond.; See there. This has been a boring day or two after the LOI period. I am sure it will pick up. We will keep you posted.

* We spoke last night with Trenton Marshall and he told us that Memphis is the leader and he is 90% sure that is where he wants to go. He also told us that Ole Miss, LSU, and Jacksonville State are right there in that order. Trenton once committed to Oklahoma State and they parted ways.

Thursday November 13, 2008:

* The list is finally here. We have assembled a database of recruits, their #’s, their schools, their coaches #’s, what level they should play at, and who/what is most important to most of them. We got our information while at the Spartanburg Methodist Showcase, which featured 14 juco and prep teams. It was a LM-D2 haven, and all the kids listed are still available. We have talked to all the coaches, and a healthy portion of the kids, so be sure and mention us for instant credibility. Click here for the list.

Wednesday November 12, 2008:

* Last night we spoke with one of the more underrated players in Florida with grades. Zachary Perkinswho stands in at 6′4″ carries a 3.7 gpa and scored 1900 on his PSAT. Perkins is a fearless athlete that really attacks the rim. He is perfect for for an up-tempo style of play. He currently is enrolled at Arch Bishop High School and says he will stay with the Florida Rams next year as well. This guy has to work on his shot and decision making but with hard work has a chance to be MM+ type of kid. Right now he says only one school is recruiting him and that is Columbia. According to Perkins they have been to his school twice and call everytime they can. This should know longer be a secret!

* We also spoke with a top 50 player in the 2010 class and he gave us all kinds of good scoop. Josh Turnerfrom Hamden CT(Sacred Heart) told us that currently he has no offers other than Rhode Island. However, dont let that fool you. According to Turner UVA, Georgia, Umass, and Providence have made it perfectly clear how interested they are in the young wing talent. Turner, who is 6′3″ with great basketball instinct and a nice shot also told us that Boston College is his dream school. He says he has yet to hear from them but would love too. Right now he says that Providence would be the leader of the schools that are recruiting him and that his AAU coach also coached Derrek Kellogg so there is a connection with UMASS as well. We will keep you posted.

* According to internet sources Dartmouth and Terry Dunn have recorded two commitments oer the weekend. Both, Mbiyimoh Ghogomu and Garrett Brownhave decided to take the journey through New Hampshire. Ghogomu picked Dartmouth over Lamar and Brown picked Dartmouth over Cornell and William and Mary.

* We also spoke with Joshea Singletonof Kinston HS in NC. He is getting recruited by the right level right now. According to Josh Western Carolina, Elon and the Citadel are his leaders right now. He told us that if he had to choose site un seen that he would go to Western Carolina but he cant wait to take his visits. Singleton tells us that Coach Grey from Western Carolina and Ronnie Hamilton from the Citadel are both doing a great job recruiting him. There is no question that the biggest influence on his decision is his mother. Coaches, work his mother just as hard. He is also looking to transfer to another school so if you can help him out I would suggest doing so! And by the way he will be with a new AAU program next year. Possibly D-One sports.

* Rumor has it that Myk Brown will be transferring to Georgia Southern. Someone let me know if this is true.

* Hot off the press, and when we say hot, we mean third degree hot. Knight, a solidly built, well fed lefty, has the tools, and committed to the University of Notre Dame last night. This is an intriguing pick up for the Irish as they will be losing a lot next year. Congrats to ND!

* We are sure you have heard by now that Florida starting point guard Jai Lucas will be transferring from the Florida team. Weatherspoon" href="http://recruitingrumors.com/archives/1637" target="_self">JD Weatherspoonfrom Columbus(Northland) has given his commitment to Sean Miller and staff.
* Jumping jack and underrated skilled wing Myles Hollowaylet us know he is still wide open. Myles, who went to Brunswick CC last year in NC, is using his redshirt year to play @ Heat Academy in VA. He has only a small list of schools right now, with WSSU being the only one to offer him, but it is only a matter of time before that changes. This kid can go, and is a definate mid major player. He’ll have 3 years left starting in 2009.

* Teammate, and the best player on the team, Marvin Fitzgerald has officially arrived. Marv, who had shoulder surgery last year, has bounced back in a big way. He can play the 1,2,3, and even a little 4 if needed. He’s stocky, and at 6′5 is an underrated athlete. UNCC and Marquette are his two biggest suitors, but he is by all means still wide open also.

* One of the best Junior point guards in the country made a decision. According to on-line reports and confirmed by his father. Gary Franklin Jr. will be headed to USC. Franklin is a very good shooting point guard, but also has a knack to find the open teammate. He will be working on his ability to guide a team without scoring this year.

* Last night we spoke with Fred Heldring (2010)from New Trier HS right outside of Chicago. Heldring, who has recieved offers from Southern Illinois and San Francisco, is all about the the IVY League, Gonzaga, Northwestern, or Loyola. Heldring said right now his list is full of IVY’s with Cornell being the leader. He says that Cornell assistant Zach Spiker is really doing a good job with him and his family!

* We also spoke with MM+ Mario Redmond (2010)from the Illinois Warriors. Austin over interest from Central Arkansas, Tulsa, Oklahoma State, and Marquette.

* Last night we had the pleasure of speaking with 2010 HM stud Josh Smith. Smith, who is a 6′10″ 270 pound man child told us that he currently holds offers from all of the Pac 10 and that UCLA has a slight advantage from that group. He also told us that both Louisville and Texas have caught his eye as well. When I asked Josh to tell me what kind of system he wants to play in he was quick to say he likes the 4 out 1 in style of basketball and feels that style gives him the best opportunity to make it to the next level. Smith who is a very articulate young man says he and Jared Sullinger are great friends and he would love to play with him in college but has yet to hear from Ohio State. We will keep you posted!

* Cal State Fullerton has recieved a commitment from Redlands guard Marvin Roberts. Roberts, originally from North Carolina gave his commitment over interest from High Point, Providence and South Florida.

* We also spoke with MM+ Mark Hennigerfrom Massilon OH. Henniger, has currently recieved offers from Kent State, and Liberty and is recieving high interest from Western Michigan, Western Carolina and Navy. Henniger and his family told us that right now Kent State is the leader but he is still wide open. Mark is a tough son of a gun that might continue to fly under the radar. If you are a MM school you need to be all over this guy. He can really rebound and defend and is truly working on his offensive game.

* University of New Orleans has recieved a commitment from Bridgton Academy guard Carl Blair.
* Last night we also spoke to MM+ post Marvel Harris. This guy is going to Georgia State if they offer. His mother wants that and so does he. His sister currently plays there and will be a sophomore. Harris is recieving interest from Tennessee Tech, Western Carolina and Florida State. This guy plays hard and has a knack to rebound.

* We spoke with 2010 6′11″ Josh Hendersonfrom Cave Spring High School last night as well. Henderson has been offered from James Madison and is recieving solid interest from Bucknell, Richmond, Davidson, and Old Dominion. According to the Henderson family education will be vital in his decision. This was a tough interview to crack and they didnt give me too much. I will keep you posted.

Monday November 3, 2008:

* Spoke with 2010 Mid Major Andrew Parker Jr.out of Laporte High School in Texas. Drew is being recruited heaviest by Wichita State, but with the grades he has, it comes as no surprise that Princeton and Lehigh have also tested the waters. Mom is the most important person in his decision, and Dad is his AAU coach, so it is safe to say he has a strong sense of family. Parker’s high school team has two other kids, Randy Collins and Cedric Jones, who both are juniors as well, and will be riding the D1 carousel before too long. So get on them early, we got #’s on both these kids.

* Last night we got a call from the Cincinnati kid and he informed us that 6′8″ 210 pound forward Jordan Latham is now off the board. Latham was on an unofficial visit to Xavier over the weekend and decided thats where he wanted to be. Bottom line here is that Emmanual “Book” Richardson is paying huge dividends for the Xavier program. Richardson, the former dean of the AAU circuit is proving himself as one of the best recruiters in the country. Latham was ranked #44 according to rivals and is steadily moving up.

* Donnie Jones and the staff at Marshall have recieved a commitment from 6′10″ 210 pound center Hassan Whiteside. Whiteside, who is extremely long is a great shot blocker with potential to develop into more if he is coachable. He choose Marshall over interest from South Carolina, Charlotte, and NC State.

Sunday November 2, 2008:

* Isaiah Philmore and his right hand man Eric Gumb have both committed to Towson. They pledged their services this afternoon to the school. Much, if not all of the credit, goes to assistant coach Eric Skeeters. “Skeets” as he is known to the boys, is a big time recruiter, and he showed his skills by reeling in arguably the best freshman, in philmore, in the class of ‘09.

Friday October 31,2008

* According to our sources on the west coast Jeff Withey may be headed to Texas. Withey who is transferring from Arizona but cannot go to the Pac 10 told our reporters that Texas, and Kansas are both viable options. He also did not rule out playing for another Big 12 team as well.

* Colorado recieved a commitment from down under yesterday. According to internet sources Shane Harris-Tunksa 6′11″ center from Austrailian institute of sport has given a solid commitment. We do not know much about Harris-Tunks but we assume he likes veggiemite.

* Good Counsel (DC AREA) big man Julius Omoniurhie has made a decision, and will be headed to SMU. Julius is a project post that really has an ability to be coached. He is originally from Nigeria and has only been playing basketball for 5 years. The sky is the limit.

* The long awaited commitment of Kenny Boynton is now over. Shaka Smart and company got it done in their home state. Boynton will be a gator! There is no need to talk about how good this kid is, if you are reading this you know! This was a big time get for the Gators.

* Irving Valley CC(CA) is sending Jon Reedto Cal State Fullerton. Reed is a 6′5″ 190 pound wing who started his career at Pepperdine.

* Cal State Fullerton also has recieved word that San Diego City CC guard Jamel McGuire will also be coming. McGuire, the younger brother of former wizards forward Dominic McGuire, has a natural ability to get to the rack!

* All around athlete Allen Huddlestonfrom Merced High (CA) has announced that he will be headed to Pacific. Huddleston is a 6′1″ guard that can really score. As a junior he averaged 25 ppg, and led Merced to a conference Championship.

Thursday October 30, 2008

* Eastern Illinois has received a nice size commitment in Shaun Pratl.Pratl according to some sources is a very athletic guy with loads of potential. We have not seen this 6′8″ 220 pounder play, but have heard great things. He chose Eastern over Boston U, St. Louis and Murray St.

* According to our Pac 10 source 6′10″ freshman Jeff Withey, who is currently enrolled at Arizona, may be heading out. Withey skipped practice Monday and is contemplating a transfer. Withey had received scholarship offers from Kansas, Syracuse, Texas, Georgetown and Louisville.

Wednesday October 29, 2008

* Had a chat w/ Xavier Jones last night. He is garnering a lot of interest from schools, but only one currently has offered him. The lone ranger you may be wondering? The University of Dayton. Dayton has some of the best recruiters in the country on their staff, and with them being on him early, it could be over quick. Xavier said his HS coach, John Boyd and AAU coach, James Dye, both will be the two biggest influences with his decision. He is also on a loaded high school team, w/ two sophomores who will play D1 somewhere. If you are a team that is losing a steady dose of guards in 2009, X Jones could be your guy.

* George Washington has recieved a commitment from 6′8″ 220 pound forward Daymon Warren. Warren has developed a lot over the past two years and has a nice feel for the game. We think Warren will get better under the right coaching staff. This was a good all around decision. He chose GW over WKU and Oral Roberts.

* The Abdul Gaddysitcom seems to be over, at least for now that is. According to internet sources Gaddy has decided to make The University of Washington home. Gaddy is a sure fire McDonalds All American. Obviously a great get!

* Last night I had the pleasure of speaking with 2010 MM Rodney Glascow. Glascow who plays for the Washington Shock AAU program and Good Counsel HS told us that Mt St. Mary’s is the leader for his services right now. He contributes that to the good relationship with the head coach and the fact that he feels he could make the tournament there. He also was quick to add that UNCG has offered and they have his attention as well. Glascow all but ruled out Howard who has also offered and wants Virginia Tech and Boston University to know he really likes there programs and is anxiously awaiting an offer.

* The IVY league keeps getting better and better. According to our IVY connects Ian Hummerhas commited to Princeton. Hummer is a flat out steal for the IVY league and will be battling it out with the Harvard recruits for freshman of the year in the league. Princeton just got a lot better my friends. Hummer commited to Princeton on Monday and sent shock waves through the IVY league.

* The University of Michigan has recieved a commitment from a big time High-Low prospect in Blake McLimans. McLimans is a 6′10″ kid that can flat out shoot. This was a system get that will pay divedends in the future in Ann Arbor.

* Other recent commits include William Wilson to North Florida; Eric Segart to Idaho State; and Hayden Humes to Toledo.

* We also spoke last night to one of North Carolina’s most underrated players in Poobie Chapmanfrom Enloe High School. Chapman who claims to have recieved offers from UNCG, Western Carolina and Virginia Tech says that Virginia Tech is in the lead but he wants to keep his options open. According to Chapman he is leaving his options open until Melvin Tabb and him decide if they really want to be a package deal. Chapman is not sure but really likes the thought. He says that Clemson is coming at the two very hard and have already offered Tabb. He also said Florida State is using the package deal to try and lure Tabb.

Tuesday October 28, 2008

* According to our North Carolina sources High Point has recieved a commitment from 6′1″ Point Jarius Simms. Simms who played over the summer for the Carolina Gators is a true point guard that has a great work ethic.

* Lehigh has recieved a commitment from 6′9″ Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy is a project post but has a brain to work with. IVY league schools were on him as well.

Monday October 27, 2008

* Below are the weekend commitments:

Cal Markuri Sanders Tough to win in the Pac 10 if you cant score.

Kansas State Nick Russell LOVE IT! A big pg that will share

Texas Southern Will Clark 4 out of 10

Baylor Bakari Turner Very underrated! Smart kid and player

Florida Atlantic Ray Taylor 9 out of 10! Guy just wins and wins

Richmond Wayne Sparrow 7 out of 10. Has nice ability to score!

Centenary Charles Winborne A giant leap. 7 out of 10

Florida State Ian Miller Has to buy into his role?????

* Expect some big time interviews in the coming weeks by this staff!

Thurrsday October 23, 2008

* Kyle Casey will be at Harvard…..you heard it here first. We will update you soon!

Wednesday October 22, 2008

* Gary Williams and the Maryland staff have recieved a commitment from Jordan Williams. Williams, who is from CT told us two months ago it was going to come down to MD and St. Johns. According to sources his sister is transferring from St. Johns so he did not want to go there. This is a project player for Gary Williams seeing how Jordan needs to get in a little better shape to be an impact in the ACC but his overall skill set is amazing. Overall we give this a thumbs up.

* The A-10 is like a bottle of wine these days, they are flat out getting better with time. According to our sources St. Joseph has landed a commitment from 6′9″ 210 pound David Bruceof Linden NJ. Bruce who we have seen on a few occasions has tons of upside. He is a little raw in the halfcourt game but his athletism in the open floor makes up for that real quick. He runs and jumps with the best in his class. Between Xavier, UNCC,UMASS and St. Joseph’s the A-10 is quietly becoming a power conference. Bruce choose the hawks over offers from Seton Hall and St. Johns.

* The Syracuse Orangemen have added a commitment from the junior class in 6′10″ Baye Moussa Keita fom Oak Hill. Keita will fit right into that 2-3 zone. He is long, he blocks shots and he rebounds. This was a great get

Tuesday October 21, 2008:

* Check out our Tom Droney Exclusive. We are quickly getting recognized as one of the premiere recruiting services in the country. And, it is mainly because we are thinking outside the box. Tell your friends get on while there is still time, bc we’re working on turning this thing into a fraternity, no strangers allowed!

* Texas is in the hunt for Mr. Personality PG Taran Buie. They haven’t officially offered yet, but don’t be surprised when Coach Barnes sends the scholarship to Albany EXPRESS MAIL. “TB” told us do not be surprised if his team takes the state crown, and don’t be surprised if he waits to end his recruitment. He told us Maryland is really trying to sell the dream of him and Isaiah Epps being a dynamic duo in the backcourt for Gary Williams. But, Buie did mention that his mom loves Notre Dame, and he likes how he can just go play when he is out there for the Irish. Georgia Tech is in the mix too, Buie is well aware of the player development going on at GT, and he has his eyes set on the league someday as well. His high school coach Rich Hurley is probably going to be the key factor in his decision. We just want to see the kid make the best decision for him, and not for him and Coach Hurley.

Monday October 20, 2008:

* Isaiah Philmore, a 6′7 210 John Carroll School product gave us a healthy portion of his time yesterday. “Zeke” is still undecided, and has two official visits remaining; but, his final 4 are Towson, Central Florida, South Florida, and GW. There is no rhyme or reason to the order, the biggest thing with Philmore is he wants to mesh well with him teammates, and go to a school that gives him the best chance to go to the Association. We were surprised to hear that as of right now he feels Towson gives him the best chance to do so. His rational being, he doesn’t have to go through any big time teams like a Memphis to get to the dance, and he would be able to shine in the CAA from Day 1. Also, Towson is going after his boy, and AAU teammate, Eric Gumb. The two have playered together for four years, and Philmore’s uncle, Duane Coverdale, who is also his AAU coach, will have the biggest impac on where he decides.

* 2010 stud Reggie Smith, a big time PG out of Harvey Thornton Township, welcomed us into his living room the other night for an exclusive interview. Reggie, who starred for the Mac Irvin AAU family, is garnering interest from a number of big time schools. Marquette, Notre Dame, UVA, Arizona, and Southern Illinois all have offered, with SIU and Marquette doing everything possible to make sure Smith knows he is there guy. Reggie candidly told us, if a team were to recruit and package both he and Mike Shaw, “it would be a done deal.” No if, ands, or buts about it, the deal would be sealed. Virginia is his favorite right now as he enjoys the way they let Singletary go, and he seems himself in the same respect as the former Cavalier stud.

* We also caught up with 2010 product Stacey Poole over the weekend. Poole has some upside, but needs to be a little more assertive at times says his list is still big, yet he does have a few favorites. According to Poole Clemson, Miami, Ole Miss and Florida State are all very interested. Poole tells us that his dream school is Florida but according to sources close to the Gators they are not interested. After Florida Poole tells us he really likes Clemson and would love to play in the ACC.

McCray is currently holding offers from William and Mary, Louisiana Monroe, and UNCG. He says the Tribe coaching staff is really doing the best job of connecting with him and his family.

* We also spoke with MM big man Codi Maduka. Maduka a 6′9″ rising prospect currently holds offers from Tulsa, American, Lafeyette and UTA. Maduka a Martin High School(TX) product also has a 3.6 and very high test scores. IVY and Patriot teams should be all over him. Both his sisters are at IVY League schools, and his parents, along w/ Codi, all hold education as the top priority.

* WOW! George Mason has recieved a big time commitment from Memphis product Johnnie Williams. Williams a 6′7″ 245 pound BIG man visited Oklahoma State and Alabama and decided his best chance to play early would be in the CAA. OK State and Alabama had not offered yet.

Dowell made it official over the weekend that he will be headed to Oklahoma State. Dowell is a stud that was once headed to Arizona. Oklahoma State is flat out getting it done!

* Texas A&M has won a battle within the state of Texas over the weekend. According to our Texas sources 6′9″ Ray Turner has decided to end his recruitment and will be headed to Aggie land. He chose A&M over Marquette.

* One of Las Vegas’ second sons has chosen to play for Kansas. Maybe the best point guard out of Vegas since CJ Watson, Elijah Johnson from Cheyenne High in Vegas has committed to the Jayhawks. Our staff loves this guy and thinks he will be an all american by junior year. The good thing for Kansas is that he is not ready for the NBA. He should be there for four years and be a very good player. He chose Kansas over Oklahoma, UNLV, and Texas.

* We had this in our files, yet we didn’t put it on here. Tom Droney, a kid who we have seen grow into a solid ball player, still has no school, and had dropped Wake Forest. Duke was in the mix at one point, but didn’t make it for a couple reasons. We feel Pitt will, and continues to do their job, and will land Droney. But, Notre Dame, Davidson, and a late bloomer WVU are all also in the mix. Stay tuned, we are trying to do an exclusive interview with this stud.

Thursday October 16, 2008

* Yale has recieved another commitment. This time Austin Morgan has decided to play for coach Jones. Barnes picked Tennessee Tech over Georgia State, UAB, and a host of other OVC schools. This was a great get!

* According to our IVY league sources, Austin Morganhas commited to Yale. Morgan is a 5′10″ point from Reno NV.

* We spoke last night to one of 2010’s most underrated players in Griffin McKenzieof Moeller High School in Cincinnati. McKenzie told us that he is recieving a host of MM offers and some HM interest. McKenzie, who currently has a bad back and is not playing in open runs, told us he felt about 75%. He said the injury is kind of a blessing in disguise because now he can tell which programs really want him. According to Griffin Miami of Ohio, Ohio U, and Cincinnati have all offered while Harvard has been to visit as well. He let it be known that Notre Dame and Xavier are his dream schools but have yet to offer. McKenzie is a 6′9″ power forward that is like a poor man’s Dirk Nowitzki. We will keep you posted.

Tuesday October 14, 2008:

* Umass is on a roll baby! According to our DC area sources 6′5″ guard Javorn Farrellhas committed to the Minutemen. Farrell transferred from Bishop Ireton to Riverdale Baptist last year where he put up good numbers considering the talent around him. Farrell was drawing interest from UVA, and Virginia Tech.

* LSU has recieved a bit of a surprise commitment. According to sources Eddie Ludwiga 6′7″ 195 pound forward from Metairie Park-Country Day, has committed to LSU. This is a surprise because he has very high test scores and a great GPA. He told our reporters early in the year that academics were his first priority. He visited Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Cal, and Davidson before deciding LSU would be his new home.

* Liberty Christian(CA) forward Sam Hicks has decided to commit to Boise State. Hicks is a 6′8″ power forward with a great ability to play hard. He chose Boise State over Idaho, San Fransisco and Nevada.

Monday October 13, 2008:

* Umass as recieved a commitment from Triple Threat post Raphael Putney. Putney who is extremely long and athletic is a great get for Kellogg and staff. The DC native was beginning to draw interest from Virginia Tech and Providence. Putney is a 6′9″ forward with limited back to the basket stuff but great open floor ability.

* Billy G and his staff at Kentucky got a huge commitment over the weekend. Daniel Ortonthe 6′10″ backboard breaker decided to end his recruitment and will be headed to Lexington. He chose UK over Kansas. He felt he wanted to be a part of rebuilding history. He will have his chance. Dontbe surprised now if UK gets more involved with Farrakohn Hall out of Memphis now. He and Orton have talked about playing together for some time.

* A fast rising west coast wing has decided that Fresno State will be his new home. 6′8″ Bay area star Jerry Brown has committed to the bulldogs through email. Brown is a very active player that has all around game. He chose Fresno State over Santa Clara, Seton Hall, and St. Mary’s.

* Ryan Hurd and Notre Dame Prep sends another kid to a HM school. This time Sean Kilpatrickhas commited to Cincinnati. Kilpatrick is a 6′5″ athletic wing that has a great knack for scoring.

* Cal has recieved a commitment from a firecracker of sorts. According to internet sources 5′7″ 140 pound point guard Brandon Smithhas commited to Cal. Smith who is a flat out winner led De La Salle to a 28-4 mark last season. He is lighting in a bottle. He chose Cal over Colorado and St. Mary’s.

* Valparaiso has recieved a commitment from Juco guard Brandon Wood. Wood, is a 6′3″ 180 pound combo guard with a great mid range game. He is very smart on the basketball court but lacks HM athletism. He chose Valpo over Detroit and American. He is a D1 transfer from Southern Illinois.

Friday October 10, 2008:

* Kansas has recieved a commitment from Thomas Robinson!!! This is huge for many reasons. One being the fact that Robinson can flat out play, and the other is Robinson is close with John Wall. Let the saga begin. Robinson is a 6′8″ 210 pound bouncing machine who is currently playing at Brewster Academy. A great athlete with loads of potential. Great get for Kansas!

* Rick Barnes and staff have added a big time player! According to sources in Texas Jordan Hamiltonhas shocked the west coast and is headed to Austin. Hamilton, who for sure is a McDonalds All Amrican, is a 6′7″ 210 pound wing who can do it all. Hamilton made it clear that playing his natural position and being able to play along side Avery Bradley were the keys in his decision.

* We had a great conversation last night with Terrence Jones. Jones, who is a 6′8″ Jeff Green type of player, gave us some great scoop for you guys. According to Jones he is receiving interest from all over the place. He currently has offers from Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Baylor, Washington, and Georgetown. He has solid interest from Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Indiana and Kansas. In fact Kansas will be at his school today. Jones is a great kid who claims to be wide open at this point. He did however say he and his best friend Terrence Ross talk about playing together on a daily basis. Coaches, that will get it done! This is a common trend that I am hearing from my interviews. Guys want to play with certain guys. Sometimes that may be difficult because one is better than the other but in this case it is a dream come true.

* WE MISSED IT! We thought Ryan Kellywas going to Notre Dame and he went on a “gut” feeling and will be headed to Duke. Its a terrible move for his professional basketball career but hey, who are we to say? Our guess is he will end up playing the 5 like Randolph, and Roberts. Time will tell.

* Got a feel for a low major sleeper last night in Raphael Jordan (443) 465 3359 out of John Carroll High School. The kid has definate mid-major potential, but for a couple of reasons, none being troublesome issues, he has fell under the radar some. He’s a young man w/ his head on his shoulders, and while definately wanting to play D1, he is not dead set on it. His brother, TJ Jordan, played at St. Mary’s (MD), so the Jordan’s are no strangers to the recruiting process. The kid can flat out play D, and has locked up some of the best and brightest of ‘09. Offensively, he’s a combo guard, who looks to pass more as the point then score. American University has offered him, but he is still WIDE open. Schools like Bryant, St. Francis (PA), Stony Brook, and Division II Philadelphia U are all very much in the hunt.

* Davidson has recieved two more really good commitments. According to our Charlotte sources Bob McKillop has recieved commitments from Jake Cohen and J.P. Kuhlman. Cohen a highly skilled 6′10″ post choose Davidson over Penn State, Stanford, and Cal. While Kuhlman a 6′3″ 180 pound guard choose the wildcats over William and Mary.

* The Providence Friars have added to thier hurrendous class and stayed with the trend of getting commitments from LM+ players. This time former Stony Brook player Kyle Wright has decided to ink with Keno Davis and staff. Wright a 6′6″ 205 wing is currently enrolled at Monroe JC and has the ability to play the 3 or the 4 just not in the big east.

* According to the Aimes Tribune All Iowa attack wing Jesse Pritchardhas choosenYale. If you remember from an earlier interview we did with Pritchard he was waiting on Harvard but I quess Harvard looked elsewhere. Pritchard is a 6′4″ wing who has the ability to really stroke it. He choose Yale over Cornell and William and Mary.

Thursday October 9, 2008:

* Forget hot off the press, this tidbit of info is not even ON the press! 6′7 sleeper of the country, Gus Gabelout of Chaparral High School in Scotsdale has verballed to Princeton. He chose Princeton over Yale and the University of Denver. The thing is the kid is far better than the IVY League, so for Princeton WOW! We’ll believe this one once the Letter of Intent is signed.

* High Point is hot on the trail of two bigs out of Queen City Prep. Dumone Leatherwood, a Jerome Williams type motor who dunks everything, and Jerome Hunter, a 6′10 thoroughbred, have both caught the eye of the High Point staff. Either one of these kids would be a welcome addition to a school that has some of the premier facilities in the country.

* Last night we spoke with 2010 legend Harrison Barnes. Barnes is a very intelligent individual who seemed to be wide open right now. However he is taking unofficial visits to Duke and Kansas with a two month period so you have to figure he has high interest there. I asked Barnes to name a few other schools he might be interested in and Florida, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, UCLA and Xavier all should be recruiting this kid. I also asked him what will his college choice come down too and he told me academics, coaching staff and teammates. He also was quick to say that he really enjoys playing with Phil Pressey and the two have talked about playing together in college for quite some time.

* High Point has stolen the MM show in NC for now. According to our carolina sources 2010 wing man Jay Canty has commited to High Point. Canty who is a 6′5″ all around wing from Ragsdale High School has chosen High Point over UNCG and Appalachain State.

* St. Anthony’s power forward Jamee Jackson has decided to end his recruitment and focus on the up coming season. According to sources close to the St. Anthony’s program Jackson will be headed to Quinnipiac. Jackson is a solid rebounder that needs to improve his offensive game but has a great attitude to do so. We like this kid as a person and a player.

* Ernie Zeigler and the staff at Central Michigan have added a commitment from 6′5″ wing K’allante Miller from Oak Park High School. Miller is a little on the light side but is a heck of a defender and has great anticipation as shown by his 4 steals a game average as a junior. He chose Central Michigan over Western Michigan, Detroit and St. Bonaventure.

October 8, 2008

* The staff at Harvard flat out gets it done! According to our North Carolina sources Brandyn Curry has committed to the Crimson. This is a huge get that really solidifies thier class. Harvard, ladies and gentleman has a top 20 MM class! Curry is a real smart point guard who chose Harvard over Stanford.

* We spoke last night with the Kelly family and they were telling us that Ryan Kelly has not yet decided. They did however walk us through the final process which took place on Sunday at the school. According to Mr. Kelly, they had a dry erase board and 15 categories. He also told us the most important categories to Ryan were facilities, relationships with players, and coaching staff both head and assistant coaches. Mr. Kelly said Ryan went down the line and ranked each school 1 thru 6. We will keep you posted. My gut tells me he is going to Notre Dame!

* According to internet sources Nate Lubicka standout at St. Marks School(MA) has chosen to play at Georgetown. Lubick is a 6′8 220 pound PF who has an all around game. Our staff feels he was overrated but time will tell. He chose Georgetown over Michigan.

* According to our Charlotte sources Davidson is still riding the NCAA tournament wave as they have recieved a commitment from 6′10″ 195 pound center Jake Cohen. Cohen who is from Berwyn PA chose Davidson over Nebraska, Northwestern and Penn State.

* According to our New England sources James Still has over signed to Providence. Unless they see something we dont Still is a MM talent. Still, who is a 6′9″ 210 pound post from Detroit Community, chose Providence over Detroit as Xavier pulled out late. Still has a lot of work to do offensively but can rebound…..we guess?

* There are rumors floating around that the Grassroots Godfather aka Sonny Vaccaro is in the ear of John Wall, Lance Stephenson and Xavier Henry. According to rumors he is trying to package them in a blockbuster deal that would send all of them to Europe for a year.

October 7, 2008

* Alabama has recieved a commitment from Shawn Kemp Jr.according to Mobile Press-Register. Kemp Jr. who has a better diet then his is a 6′8 215 pound gifted forward who is a better rebounder than he is anything. We like the get for Alabama because he will be able to bang immediately. He choose Alabama over Washington and Nebraska.

* According to internet sources the Mac Irvin Fire program has sent a 2010 prospect to Purdue. Anthony Johnsona 6′4″ 200 pound guard that can flat out score has choosen Purdue over Illinois, California and Notre Dame. This kid has a shot to be a Mcdonalds All American.

* Thomas Manzanofrom Garden City JC has commited to The University of Wyoming. This guy is a flat out stud but has had problems with academics in the past. He is a journeyman of sorts. He has played at Canarsie(Brooklyn), Genesis One, Notre Dame Prep and now Garden City. If he graduates he will have three year of eligibilty left at the D1 Level. He will be an immediate impact! The kid is an all around guard that score with the best of them.

October 6, 2008

* Acording to sources close to J.C. Clark’srecruitment, it appears that the former LA Tech starting point guard will be attending Pikeville College. He along with transfer Charles Bronson will make them a legitimate contender to win a National Championship. He choose Pikeville over Georgetown, and Oklahoma Baptist.

Ukam is a 7′0″ 220 pound all around post from Mount Verde High School. He already has an offer from Virginia Tech but is wide open in his recruitment.
* We had a great conversation last night with in my opinion the most underrated recruit in the country. Ferrakohn Hall is a prospect with great potential and great perspective. Ferrakohn told us that he will wait until spring to decide on a school but currently has offers from Oklahoma State, Memphis, Florida State, Kentucky and UMass, as well as some other schools. Hall did indicate a couple of telling things when he told us that he really wants to play along side of Daniel Orton. Orton is a big time recruit which seems to have Kentucky has a leader. Hall also indicated that he has been a Memphis fan since he was young and that Oklahoma State is his sleeper team. It is fair to say Hall is wide open right now with no precise leader. He will be leaning on his uncle to help advise him. “My Uncle is someone that I trust and respect” Hall said. I look for Hall to do big things in any uptempo style of play as he can really see the floor and knows how to make the right decision. More importantly he is a better person than he is a player and that is saying a lot.

* Michael Gerrity has decided to cut ties with UNCC. All Ohio guard Aaron Craft decided to waste no time and jump on the biggest school that is recruiting him. Craft is 6′1″ point guard that can really defend. He was getting looks from the MAC however Bruce Pearl didn’t care that the SEC and ACC weren’t recruiting him, and he did care that Craft will be a glue like addition to an already talented team. Craft the 2010 recruit will be similar in mind and spirit to former Vol Dane Bradshaw.

* Jim Molinari and his Western Illinois staff have added a little help for next year.
* We caught up with MM recruit Gabe Knutsonlast night and he told us that his leaders in no particular order are Albany,Lafayette, and Lehigh. He gave me his top four schools which were Sam Houston State, Missouri State, Wichita State, and North Texas. It seemed to me that Sam Houston State was the early leader. His father would like to see him stay in Texas and Kelly had a bunch of good things to say about assistant coach Jason Hooten from Sam Houston State. However, he also mentioned the fact that head coach Cuonzo Martin(Missouri State) is more involved than head coach Bob Marlin(Sam Houston State). Which he said could be a determining factor.

* We also spoke with Harrison Dupontout of Midwest City.
* Alabama signee Tony Mitchell has failed to qualify for the fall semester of 2008. Mitchell a 6′6″ small forward from Swainsboro GA says he intends to honor his commitment with Alabama and he will do what it takes to get to the University of Alabama as soon as possible.

* Jeff Lebo goes into his college state 70 pounds heavier and pulls out a filet mignon in prize recruit Earnest Ross.
* Bobby Gonzalez has landed yet another big time transfer. According to ESPN.com Keon Lawrence has transferred from Missouri to Seton Hall. Lawrence is a very talented combo guard who led the tigers in minutes played last year. He is originally from New Jersey as he averaged 31 points a game at Weequahic High School.

September 2, 2008

*I spoke with John Wallyesterday and all indications are that he is headed to Memphis. Wall said to me in a phone interview, “I am going to Memphis…..I am taking the other visits because I told my coach I would.” He credits this decision to style of play and the coaching staff. When asked which coach he felt the strongest connection with he did not hesitate to say Josh Pastner of Memphis. Once again Pastner is proving his worth!

* Class of 2009 forward Steve Walker has decided to re-open his recruiting process. Walker who originally committed to Northern Illinois has decided to test the waters and is now hearing from Illinois State, Cornell, and Youngstown State.

* 2010 big man Jeremy Tyler really enjoyed his visit to Louisville over the weekend. According to Scout.com Tyler plans to make two more visits possibly to UCONN and Memphis. Tyler would like to make a decision before his Junior year starts.

* Texas A&M has gotten a commitment for the class of 2011. Jamal Branch has decided to join Mark Turgeon and the Aggies. According to sources close to Branch he was tired of the whole recruiting process. Branch is rated by some as the best prospect in his class in the state of Texas. Don’t be surprised if he pulls a Brett Farve and re-opens his recruitment in a couple of years. He was drawing interest from Kansas, Texas, Florida and Memphis.

* Loganville Christian Academy big man Daniel Millerhas committed to The University of Georgia according to Hoopmaster.com. Miller avg. 28 points and 12 boards a game his junior year on the way to his second state championship. Our staff has seen him play and feel as though he is not SEC ready. Look for him to redshirt or have no immediate impact. He was also drawing interest from Georgia Tech and Stanford.

* Mark McLaughlinwill look to attend a prep school or juco according to sources close to the family. Mclaughlin who originally committed to Washington State and then again with Nevada has yet to hear a ruling from the NCAA on his academic status.

* According to a Long Beach newspaper Ben Howland and staff have added another stud to the family. Tyler Lamb a 6′5″ swing man from Colony High has choose UCLA over USC and Arizona.

* Two sport stud Drew Kelly from Centennial High School in Franklin (TN) has decided to play basketball in college. The 6′7″ forward will be packing all of his collard shirts and heading to Miami of Ohio. Kelly choose the red hawks over Southern Illinois, Murray State, and Belmont.

* Kerry Keating is starting to make some noise on the west coast. According to the LA Times Santa Clara has received a commitment from a solid inside scorer in Chris Cunningham. Chris is a very physical player and also someone that come in immediately and competes for time. Chris choose Santa Clara over Stanford and Cal.

* A member of our staff got a chance to sit down with Thomas Knightthis weekend and we were surprised about what we heard. According to Knight Northeastern is his leader over Notre Dame, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Harvard. He said he really likes the players and staff at Northeastern. However, he made it known that Tommy Amaker is make a valiant and note worthy push. We will keep you posted.

* I spoke with MM talent Osas Ebomwonyi out of Texas last night and he told me that Lamar, La. Tech, Montana State and the Citadel have all offered. Lamar is the only school he has visited and consequently really liked it, he also made it abundantly clear that Ed Conroy and Ronnie Hamilton are doing a great job recruiting him to play at the Citadel as well. This one will be interesting as he lists Lamar and the Citadel as his top two.

Day 3 had a different vibe to it all together. The concessions people were on the lasts of their inventory, there were sponsor signs and banners being taken down, and a little bit of anticipation for certain games.

However, Day 3 for myself, was set out to see two kids in particular. Walter Aikens of Harding University High and Terrence Williams of West Meck. I had had glimspes of both these kids, but really felt I was doing them, myself, and our subscribers an injustice by just judging them on 1 half of basketball. So, I took in both these guys entire games and came away feeling I really do have a special talent, which is judging basketball players.

Game 7- Harding University High vs Concord:

Like previously stated, I went to this game for the sole purpose of seeing Walter Aikens, but as I’m sure any coach can attest, I was left liking and becoming more interested in a few other players. When I had previously seen Harding, they had a kid James Williams, and it just wasn’t his night. I figured, the kid is shooting all these shots, and they look fluid, but for whatever reason, they are not falling. Well, Wednesday they did. The guy had 36 and if it wasn’t for him in the first half, this would have been a blowout. If he develops his handle, and gets in the weight room, he’s a for sure D1 kid. If not, he’ll be a nice d2 player.

* Walter Aikens can and should play the 1 at the next level. He has the body, the great change of speed/change of direction ability, and he can handle the ball well. Playing for his dad, he obviously has a little more freedom then he will at the next level, but besides the occassional wild pass, he is a sound decision maker. He really likes the one dribble pull up going left, and when he uses his dribble to get in rhythm for his shot, his outside shot is quality. And, as I’m sure everybody already says about him, he is a big time athlete. With a year of prep, I think he could be a big time mid major, he needs some fine tuning on little nuances of the game, but physically he is ready for a mid major.

* I got a good chance to see David Wishon Wednesday too. The thing about him is, the system doesn’t fit what he can do. Concord is uptempo, and while Wishon is trying to adapt, in order for him to be effective they have to run things that have him on the block w/ some room to maneuver. That’s not happening though, the guards dominate the ball, and are constantly getting in the lane. He’s obviously a D1 body, but his skill set is nowhere near D1. There is a kid out of Toledo, Ohio, Storm Stanley, who had decommitted from WVU, that is far more skilled and ready then Wishon.

* Wishon’s teammate, Jacquise Moore, went to work yesterday! Kid only missed 6 shots, and went off for 38. His size hurts his d1 chances, but his athletic ability makes him intriguing. He mixes it up well when going to the basket, and doesn’t shy away from contact or the big play. He is a d2 steal no question!

Harding was up @ the half, but Concord battled back and put on an offensive barrage in the second half, winning by a final of 95-87.

Game 8- West Meck vs Norcross:

* The gym was basically empty for this one, which was a surprise as it was a local team playing. But, the girls championship was going on in the other gym, so it was understandable. When I saw the lack of crowd, I was anxious to see if the kids played w/ less effort then they would if it was sold out, or if they still competed at a high level. After a lathargic start from West Meck, both teams went hard for a majority of the game.

* Taariq Muhammad is a real good dude, and he seemed dead set on just being the facilitator Wednesday, and that is saying a lot. He really found his teammates, and even though he finished w/ 10 assists if his teammates make shots, he finishes with 17 assists. He told me he won’t sign until the spring, and a lot of schools were still just talking to him, not really seperating themselves. If I’m a mid or low major, I am swooping in w/ open arms, and loving this kid up!!! He’d be the steal of the late signing period for any A-10, MAC, SoCon, etc type of school.

* ‘Riq’s teammate Adrien Hubbard got my “got better as the week went on” award. Each time I watched this kid, I was a little more impressed. 3 games in 3 days, and the kids motor was running like he had a 9 volt energizer in his shorts. He had 10pts and 11 boards Wednesday in 21 minutes, and really had more hustle plays then any other day, which is wild to say, but true.

* After a slow start, the other guy I went to specifically see, Terrence Williams, showed his true colors. He really wasn’t getting the touches I thought could have helped his team, but even with being so raw, he made plays everytime he had the ball. He finished with a quiet 16 and 10 boards, but could have easily had 20. His ability to shoot and make plays w/ his left hand impressed me, and really made him hard to guard. He is a mismatch waiting to happen bc even though he is not overly tall, he is long enough that no guard can guard him, and no big will stay w/him. He is a 3 on the next level, no question, but how effective he will be just depends on how much better his midrange gets. It is solid right now, but if he can make it great, watch out. He plays for Carolina Elite in the summer, just a little FYI.

* The final is well documented from the Charlotte Observer, with Brandyn Curry out of Hopewell winning the Local Boys MVP award, and Marion Smith out of Christ the King winning the Nation Boys MVP award. The only thing I will add to it is Odell Turner is a monster. A d1 monster, maybe, but a division 2 All-American! And, his partner in crime, JD Ey, is a D2 steal as well. Both can play Division I like I said yesterday, but they just have some things they really need to improve on to be difference makers up there.

***Be on the lookout in the next week or so w/ a full list of potential student-athletes, little tidbits about them, and contact info for these guys.***

Trumping the Sylvia Hatchell cameo today was none other then Mr. Carolina Panther himself Steve Smith. I offered to split my fantasy football earnings w/ him as he was instrumental in helping me capture the crown, but he smiled and said “That’s all you.” What else can I say about the guy, other then he’s got a great heart.

GAME 6- Christ the King vs Bishop O’ Connell:

* There will be one common theme in every services blog about this game, and it will not be a great day for Kendall Marshall. I will not judge him on this one performance as he did play well last night, but part of being a high major recruit is being able to put together back to back games. Marshall though had a mediocre first half as his team fell behind, and he looked passive. At the time I thought maybe the kids got a flair for the dramatic and will pull another Superman after the half. No dice, stunk the joint up 2nd half as well. What I can say about the kid though is, as good as he did NOT play he never hung his head, he showed very little negative emotion, and didn’t get down on his teammates. Sign of a mature kid, but I would also like to seem him take the challenge of being better defensively.

* There was nobody else who really stood out in this game. Christ the King’s guard trio handled BOC’s press with ease, and consistently broke them down off the dribble, especially Marion Smith. Smith had 21 points on 9 shots.

* Christ the King got the best of Bishop O’ Connell on this night beating them by a final score of 65-57

GAME 7- Harding University High School vs Charlotte Latin:

* Only stayed for the first half of this game, as I wanted to make sure I caught all of J.T. Terrell’s game, but Walter Aikens could be the sleeper of this tournament. Not to say he is not known about already, but he handled the ball better then I thought he would being a 3 sport athlete, and he’s got a ready for whatever body. I will pay closer attention to him specifically Wednesday, but he did hit a couple nice jumpers in the first half.

GAME 8- Cummins vs Myers Park:
* This game was enertaining from start to finish as Myers Park brought a solid fan base, and Cummins had some supporters as well. You could tell people were still buzzing about the 52 point performance from J.T. Terrell, and while they didn’t pull off the W, he held his end of the deal.

* Flat out, no question about it, JT Terrell is the best pure scorer I have seen at the high school ranks thus far this year. I’ve seen Patterson, I’ve seen Charis, Oak Hill, basically every other prep, but Hargrave, and all kinds of random east coast, midwest, and carolina high schools, and there is no doubt this kid can score. When he is in rhythm, meaning when his feet are under him after his move, there is no is he going to make the shot, it’s will it be a 3 or a 2. The thing I like the most about him though is, he knows he is good, but he cares about his team. Yes, he forced some shots, and leaked out, and didn’t really sit down on D, but he apologized to his teammates at various times for messing up, and tried to involve them all throughout the game. Opposing crowds, especially in the ACC, will hate him, just because he’s got what comes off as unflappable bounce, but really is now known as swagger.

* JT was not even the kid that impressed me most in this game tonight. That honor goes to Chris Richmond, the sophomore PG for Cummins. He’s a mini Khalid El- Amin. For his age, he has a great presence about him, and JT takes a lot of pressure off him, so things are a lot easier on him. He’s strong for his age, and can get stronger, and while he can’t finish through contact all the time, he will be by next year, and definately @ the next level. I love kids that put you on their shoulder and either let you foul them or get the bucket, and time and time again he did that Tuesday. FT’s might be the kid’s kryptonite though!

* His fellow sophmore, 6′2 Quinton Morrow, quietly put together a very good game. His shot is a little funny in terms of release, but he is effective from various spots on the floor, which considering all the shot JT takes, says a lot about him maximizing his touches. He is playing 3rd wheel right now, but this time next year, we’ve got a monster in the making folks.

* On the Myers Park side, Odell Turner, a 6′6 senior, really left me excited in the first half. Started the game off w/ a viscious dunk, then proceeded to block at least 3 shots in the first half, EMPHATICALLY. I think he’ll go D1, but he is a D2 steal. He faded a little bit in the second half, especially in the beginning, but he came back and finished the game strong. Question his 15′ jumper, just because I didn’t see it tonight.

* JD Edy, another senior, but an inch shorter, caught my eye in warm ups. But, he grabbed everybody’s attention in the 2nd half when he came down the lane and caught a mean 2 handed slam! The only thing keeping him from being a D1 kid is his skill set on the perimeter. He’s got great D2 size, but will need to develop a nice outside presence if he wants to play at the division 1 level.

Myers Park ended up winning this game, and it’s a shame because I really feel the refs impacted this game more then they should have. The refs got caught up in JT Terrell’s side antics, instead of focusing on the kid getting smacked and hit as he got in the lane. They called a bunch of charges and blocks, which made them really inconsistent, and it really has been the only sour thing of the whole tournament.

Other Notable Performances from Tuesday’s action:

Terrence Williams- West Meck- 22pts 9 rebounds in 24 minutes

Aaron Bennett- West Meck- 31pts 7reb 6 assists in 25 minutes

Jeremy Watson- West Meck- 16pts 7reb in 14 minutes

Talib Zanna- Bishop McNamara- 26pts 13 reb in 29 minutes

Joe Jackson- White Station- 30pts 6reb in 31 minutes

Wake Hamilton- Charlotte Country Day- 19pts 6reb 5st in 28 minutes

Earl McLaurin- Charlotte Country Day- 15pts 4reb 6assists 3steals in 29 minutes

Jacquise Moore- Concord- 17pts 10reb in 23 minutes

Roger Smith- Concord- 19pts 4reb 6assists 7st in 20 minutes

Chance Rucker- 18pts in 16 minutes

David Wishon- 14pts 10reb in 15 minutes

Devin Spencer- 17pts 7reb in 30 minutes

Adrian Hubbard- 20pts 8reb in 29 minutes

Kudos to Jeff Hood and Miss Hillary Fleming for believing me about recruitingrumors.com! They allowed me an all access pass to the Bojangles Classic, and if Day 1 is any sign, this is a first class tournament.

There are certain signs that let people know, ok this is big time. For me, it was when I opened up my program, and saw letters of thanks from the Governor, the Mayor, and Steve Smith. The back to back to back letters of thanks from these guys out of the gates simply wowed me.

The food in the hospitality room was warm, and had that down south flavor, and the volunteer staff was, and I am sure will continue to be very accomodating.

Here are the Day 1 notes from the tourney:

Game 1- Concord HS vs Hugh Cummings HS:

* Cummings handled Concord, due to all the red tape I had to cut through, I sat down right around the time Cummings was up close to 20. Did notice right away, recruiting guru Rob Moxley from UNCC in the stands. Every game, practice, or tournament I have been to throughout the year it is safe to say Coach Mox has been in attendance. He closes out our year on junkyard dog status, just for the simple fact he never has a hair out of place on the trail, guy cleans up well.

* The in case you missed it moment of the day happened when I walked over to the scorers table to see who the high scorers were and was blown away that Deamon Deacon to be J.T. Terrell went off for 52 points, while shooting an extremely high percentage! I can’t wait to see how he follows this one up Tuesday.

* Final Score: Cummings 103 Concord 88

* Game 2- Norcross vs Bishop McNamara:

* I thought we might see a little of a feeling process since these two teams were playing @ a neutral site, and are from different parts of the country. NOPE. Rashad Wack settled right in. He started his offensive barrage by showcasing his midrange, then proceeded to hit a contested 3. In the second half, when Taariq Muhammad got on him, I said to myself, self, Muhammad is definately trying to get in his head, and it is working, EXCEPT when ’shad has the ball. Once he got the ball, he just went back to work, finishing w/ a game high 28.

* Speaking of Taariq Muhammad, being a basketball head, I appreciate his game. There’s no question the talent is there, but he competes on every play, and does the little things, in terms of charge taking, extra pass, easiest play, and does all of those consistently. He didn’t shoot the ball hardly at all, and I never judge a player by his jump shot, but his IQ impressed me.

* The big fella, Talib Zanna, started off the game well just by imposing his will on Norcross. But, then it seemed like Norcross shook their jitters off and started really going at him. When that happened Big T didn’t back down, but he definately didn’t rise to their level. He has solid footwork, not overly explosive, but great hands. The only thing that showed me he still has some growing up to do is when things weren’t going his way, his body language got sour, but his teammates did a great job of keeping him in the game.

* Bishop has a junior, Brandon Coleman, he’s roughly 6′7, nice body, real athletic, but raw. He’s tough as nails though, and real aggressive, he fits his role, but I really look for him to break out this summer, and be the man of that team this time next year.

* The boy that impressed me the most in this game, and it was gradually, is Adrian Hubbard. A 6′7 junior, Hubbs is a high energy guy, really really really stays on the board, and somehow kept at least 4-5 plays alive for Norcross. Always upbeat, when he comes out of the game it is not because of a lack of effort, and he’s got a decent skillset.

* Ultimately, the game came down to FT’s, Norcross had their chance, but Bishop sealed it from the line. Bishop ended up winning 56-53.

Game 3- Towson Cathloic vs White Station

* On paper this is a game that was definately appealing, and w/ the way the teams warmed up, it looked like it was going to be a doozy, but while it was a good game, it never lived up to his hype.

* The only player from Towson who really stood out to me was Julian Harrell. A 6′2 junior, Harrell played a combo role for TC. He has a solid outside shot, and in terms of creating his own shot in the half court, he is effective at it. The only red flag I had was in terms of his full court ball handling. I think he can definately be a PG at the next level, but once he gets to dribbling at a high rate of speed, it usually didn’t end up well for him. That will come w/ experience, but right now his full court ball handling and finishing when going coast to coast is what I am worried about.

* My man who is a big Ferrakohn Hall fan had me thinking this guy was the Denzel Washington of basketball. So, I had my popcorn ready, and was expecting a strong showing from ‘kohn. There is no question he has high major potential, and I’m sure he’ll play well the rest of the tourney, but yesterday, and admittedly so, wasn’t his best day around the rim. He should have had 40, but for whatever reason, be it a bad angle on the shot, or not enough arch, his shot wasn’t falling. With that being said, the guy needs more touches! When the offense did go through him, he didn’t selfishly shoot it or even look to shoot everytime, and showed tremendous passing ability.

* A guy to keep an eye out for is White Station sophomore Marvin Williams. Williams, is a 6′6 junior, but has the body of a nimble offensive lineman. Once his conditioning catches up with his body, he’ll be a force.

* White Station handled Towson easily, even though Towson competed for 32.

Game 4- Christ the King vs IMG:

* This game had me highly upset. IMG always pulls a stunt like this. They have quality players, some high major guys, and they get in these big time tournaments, and then don’t play them. They put a sour taste on a great day, and I left at halftime to get a seat for the Hopewell vs Charlotte Latin game in the other gym.

Game 5- Hopewell vs Charlotte Latin

* Two teams, Hopewell being the better coached of the two, that both play hard and run good stuff. The highlight of the first half were two buzzer beaters, a 3/4 court heave and the other a regular shot @ the end of the half, that gave Hopewell some much needed momentum.

* The highlight before the highlights of this game, and this is a sidenote, was seeing Sylvia Hatchell walk by decked out in her Carolina blue and Air Force Ones. There was a big time girls game prior to the Hopewell game, and UNC was in there, UNCC and Maryland were also floating around in there.

 * Brandyn Curry, a Harvard signee, did not have a spectacular first half, but that is what impressed me. He knew he wasn’t playing well, but that didn’t effect his attitude or his ability to setup his teammates. Truth be told, if his teammates were hitting shots, he probably would have had somewhere close to 10 assists. He played hard though, and from what I saw, I am sure he is nowhere near his ceiling. He still has at least another 2-3 inches to grow, and his arms are so long, he could be a real force on the defensive end.

* David Chadwick, defensively, is ready for Washington State. Once his frame gets bigger, and he plays as long as he is, he will be solid for Tony Bennett. I’ve noticed there seems to be a trend w/ big men who have guard skills these days though. When they go to the cup, rather then finishing with the length they’ve been blessed w/ they make themselves smaller, and struggle to really power thru to the goal like they should. Chadwick was guilty of that on several occassions Monday.

* Hopewell won this one 53-42. Not the most exciting game, but solid.

There are high school coaches who coach simply because their son/daughter plays on the team, and they want to ensure their child gets an adequate amount of playing time.? There are also coaches, who coach because they feel they know it all and nobody can tell them otherwise.? Those type of coaches end up being the bearer’s of all kinds of confrontation and criticism, while also managing to lose most of their games.

Then there are the coaches who played the game, know the game, and put their players in a position to succeed night in and night out.? It is a daunting task, but a rewarding one no less.? Such is the case at United Faith Christian Academy, and Coach Shaun Wiseman is the guy steering that ship.? Coach Wiseman sat down with us prior to practice, and shared some of his thoughts and philosophies with us, and made the game seem simple.? He coaches kids ranging from an eighth grader to four high school seniors, and every grade in between.? So, on top of having to deal with kids who have never had a “real” coach in their young lives, he also has to deal with the attitudes, the mental blunders, and attention span of these young guys.? He handles it well though.? When he coaches, he has a passion about him, and gives off the vibe that yeah, I could let this mistake go, but why would I not try and help my guys develop good habits that will help them become better players, and people, down the road.? He stresses spacing, and does not want robots.

As for the team, UFCA is in a word, loaded!? They should be called RecruitingRumors.com Faith Christian Academy because most of the guys out there are in our new player rankings (click here to see those).? Wiseman is not like other coaches though, in that just because he has talent, he still coaches the heck out of his most talented player, just as he does a kid who didn’t have?a practice jersey to start the night.? Blake Smith is going to Radford, Tevin Friday, a 2010 kid,?is still wide open and drawing IVY League interest among other.? Ian Miller is FSU bound in 2010.? But, really and truly, that’s just where it starts.

UFCA has two kids, one a senior from Croatia, Ilija Ivankovic, who still has no offers.? He has a mid major body, and by all accounts, can be a solid mid major player next year.? He loves to rebound, he’s springy, has a nice hook shot, and understands the game.? Then there is Kadeem Green, a long, athletic, stacy augmon like player, who is a 2010 kid, with no offers.? Kid can penetrate, has a nice shot, and when we talked to him was extremely polite.

The sleepers of the group are the kids that impressed us the most.? Maybe it was because they were younger, or maybe it was because all the studs were on one team because UFCA has a game on Tuesday.? But, there is no denying the talent of freshman Peter Jurkin and eighth grader, yes eighth grader, Patrick Rooks.? Put it like this, if Ian Miller is going to FSU, Patrick Rooks should have gotten his offer from them the very next day.? Rooks is a smaller, physique wise, left handed version of Miller, and he is going up against him in practice every single day.? With the way Coach?Wiseman nurtures him, but also pushes him, this kid is a gem.? Now, we never judge people on first impressions, so to say Rooks was given Miller the business, would be wrong.? But, Rooks was giving Miller all he wanted in the short segments we saw.? He is still in eighth grade, true, but Rooks had this calmness about him that even when he didn’t make the right play, it was ok, because we knew he was going to bounce back and make the next one.

The other was freshman Peter Jurkin.? Not quite sure if Peter is his birthname, but we are sure that Jurkin is spring loaded.? He is still raw, but he has the size and coordination parts down.? Strength will come as he gets older, and settles in the weight room, but he will be an impact player.?

The trip to Charlotte was well worth it as United Faith Christian Academy is a premier school in terms of getting the most out of kids physically, mentally, and spiritually.? Add to that a premier coach in Shaun Wiseman, and the formula for success is cemented in for as long as the two sides remain together.

Coach Wiseman- 704 608 0391

Ilija Ivankovic- 704 608 0391

Kadeem Green- 352 223 7513
